Actor Jin Seon-kyu recalled his childhood, which was marked by domestic violence.
On the 12th, a video titled "Actor Jin Seon-kyu, who suffered from school violence during his school days: 'The more famous I became, the more afraid I was'" was released on the YouTube channel 'Newly Revived.'
On that day, Jin Seon-kyu reflected on his childhood, saying, "I grew up in Jinhae, Gyeongsangnam-do. It was very rural. It wasn't a place where I dreamed of becoming an actor. The environment was somewhat poor. I grew up busy and struggling to make a living."
He continued, "There was a patriarchal system and violence against my mother. Living in poverty was hard. All of my father's struggles were expressed at home. My father was in the navy. After meeting my mother, he got married and was discharged. He wasn't an officer, so after his discharge, it was even harder for him to find work. I sometimes think that if he had stayed in the navy until he could receive a pension, we could have lived well, but all his anger was directed at my mother. It's a bit less now, but back then, the economic difficulties of the family were not as hard as the conflicts between my parents, the fights, and my father's beatings and abuse."
Jin Seon-kyu also said, "I wonder how we would have survived without my mother at that time," adding, "My mother still works. My youngest sister runs a small burger shop, and my mother helps her out there, which is how the three siblings have been able to make a living."
Jin Seon-kyu mentioned, "My father doesn't work," and added, "At some point, a man feels diminished. He starts to build walls with the outside world. My father was like that. After he developed angina and received treatment, he said, 'I'm too weak to work,' and isolated himself. His old personality remained unchanged. He doesn't change much." He also expressed that he had resentment towards his father but is trying to resolve it through faith, saying, "I try to adhere to the saying, 'Honor your parents,'” indicating that he is still in a difficult situation, which evokes sympathy.
Jin Seon-kyu once again expressed his affection for his mother, saying, "I think my siblings and I grew up well thanks to my mother. At that time, she could have left the family without any concern. But she couldn't do that because of us three siblings," as he became teary-eyed.
