Singer Song Dae-kwan (79) has passed away on February 7, the anniversary of his mother's death, adding to the sorrow.

According to the music industry on the 7th, Song Dae-kwan visited the emergency room at Seoul National University Hospital the day before due to health issues and passed away from a heart attack that morning.

His recent active participation, including an appearance on KBS's 'National Singing Contest' last month, has made his passing even more tragic. He was also scheduled to appear on 'Gayo Stage' next week.

Coincidentally, the day Song Dae-kwan took his last breath was also the anniversary of his late mother's death. His mother, the late Guk Gap-sul, passed away from a brain hemorrhage on February 7, 2016. This news was particularly heartbreaking for him, as he was already struggling with a debt of 28 billion won due to his wife's failed real estate investments and living in a rented house.

Song Dae-kwan has expressed his deep longing for his mother on various broadcasts.

In 2020, on SBS Plus's 'Kim Soo-mi, Are You Eating Well?', Song Dae-kwan reminisced about his memories with his mother while visiting a soup restaurant. He recalled that after gaining popularity with 'Haetdeulnal' and finally being able to live comfortably, his mother suddenly collapsed, and he regretted not being able to put a gold ring on her finger as he saw her frail arm in the hospital. He immediately searched for a jewelry store near the hospital. He returned to the hospital and personally put a bracelet on his mother's wrist, crying as he held her frail arm compared to the bracelet.

In 2021, on MBN's 'Exclusive World', he visited a traditional market and said, “I always miss you and feel sorry. I only think about the things I couldn't do for you. I regret that I couldn't be by your side and only showed my face occasionally.”

He shared a story that brought tears to his eyes, saying, “Whenever I tried to get up to leave after meeting you, you would hold my sleeve and say, ‘Wait a little longer. What are you so busy with?’”

Song Dae-kwan's mother, Mrs. Guk Gap-sul, remained a steadfast symbol of life, selling clothes made with a sewing machine at a street stall even after her son became successful. She was also awarded the '2000 Artist's Honorable Mother Award.'

Democratic Party lawmaker Park Ji-won posted on social media that day, reminiscing about Song Dae-kwan and his mother, saying, “As a descendant of an independence activist, you were so filial to your single mother, and when you were the Minister of Culture, your mother received the 'Artist's Honorable Mother Award,' holding my hand with tears in your eyes, saying, ‘Thank you, brother.’”

Song Dae-kwan received great love as one of the 'Four Kings of Trot' alongside the late Hyun-chul, Tae Jin-ah, and Seol Woon-do. In particular, he brought joy with his playful chemistry with Tae Jin-ah on various entertainment programs.

The late singer's final stage will be seen on the 'National Singing Contest' on the 16th and next month on the 2nd.
