On the morning of the 6th, the 11th Criminal Division of the Uijeongbu District Court sentenced the 30-year-old internet broadcaster A, who was arrested and indicted on charges of extortion under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, to 7 years in prison.
The court pointed out, “The defendant decided to extort money using recorded private conversations and photographs after the relationship with the victim became neglected.”
It continued, “Over a period of 4 years, the defendant extorted 840 million won worth of goods in 101 instances,” adding, “Considering the method and duration of the crime, the nature of the offense is not good.”
A is accused of blackmailing Kim Junsu 101 times from September 2020 to last month, extorting goods worth 800 million won. It is reported that A recorded conversations with Kim Junsu for illegal purposes and threatened to distribute them on social media.
In this regard, Kim Junsu's side stated, “Kim Junsu has never committed any illegal acts,” and added, “A continued this blackmail because Kim Junsu is a celebrity, exploiting public attention, and even though the defendant recognized that Kim Junsu had done nothing wrong, they did not stop these actions, taking advantage of his status as a celebrity.”
