Actress Kim Hye-soo revealed the reason for stepping down as the MC of the Blue Dragon Film Awards.
On the 28th, a video titled ‘[All-Nighter Warning] Almost Missed the Ending While Gaming (feat. Trigger Team)’ was posted on the YouTube channel ‘PDC by PDC’.
In the video, when asked about the rumor that she quit the Blue Dragon to wear a dress, Kim Hye-soo jokingly replied, “That’s right. It was too hard to starve at year-end.” Kim Hye-soo had hosted the ‘Blue Dragon Film Awards’ for about 30 years but stepped down from the MC position in 2023.
In November last year, Kim Hye-soo attended a Disney content showcase held in Singapore, showcasing her stunning dress.
She revealed, “Actually, after finishing the drama shoot, I ate a lot and gained a lot of weight. I was worried about whether I could go to Singapore, so I hurriedly lost weight.”
She continued, “Before getting on the plane, I ate a lot, and after boarding, I followed (Jung) Sung-il to eat the in-flight meal. I ate a lot, but I had to wear a dress the next day. After eating, I felt uneasy. As soon as I arrived, I had a fitting, and the dress was tighter than my original body size, making it hard to zip up. At that time, Sung-il said, ‘Sister, I’m going to run tonight,’ so I suggested we run together,” revealing that she ran with Jung Sung-il at that time.
Kim Hye-soo said, “The next day, it was really amazing that the dress, which I originally had to pull to wear, zipped up easily. Our stylist greeted Sung-il with a belly bow,” she laughed.
When asked if actors prefer to look slimmer on screen, Kim Hye-soo replied, “In reality, it’s all fine, but on screen or in photos, it’s better to be a bit slimmer to enhance the angles. Actors sometimes need to gain weight for roles, but to capture the delicate movements of muscles and the angles of lighting, being slim is better.”
Kim Hye-soo confessed, “People sometimes think I’m binge eating when they see me eat, but I’m actually a big eater.”
She added, “I love to eat a lot. They say your appetite decreases as you age, but mine hasn’t. The hardest part of working is managing my diet according to my role. That’s part of our job too,” and said, “On the other hand, if I weren’t an actress, I don’t think I would have the health and condition I have now.”
Furthermore, she said, “Our job is about maintaining ourselves while fitting into the conditions of something else. While doing this job for a long time, there are many times I neglect myself, but situations arise where I have no choice but to maintain myself. In a way, it’s a very grateful thing. It’s harsh when you’re doing it, but in the end, it’s a relief.”
Kim Hye-soo collaborated with Jung Sung-il in the Disney+ series ‘Trigger’. ‘Trigger’ tells the story of relentless investigative reporters who point their cameras at the wrongdoings of bad guys in this flower-like world.
