It has been revealed that the master of "Gonggi" appeared as Kang Ha-neul's hand double in ‘Squid Game 2’, causing a stir.
Park Jong-nam, who appeared as a Gonggi master on SBS’s ‘Master of Living’, posted on Instagram on the 26th, saying, “Netflix debut! I didn’t appear as a squid, but as a hand double,” revealing that he worked as Kang Ha-neul's hand double in ‘Squid Game 2’.
He recalled, “I received a call two days before my wedding last October. The producer of ‘Master of Living’ contacted me, saying they needed a hand for a global OTT project, but I had to come down to Daejeon. I was relieved that it was the day before my wedding, so I took a day off to participate, but I wondered what Gonggi was.”
He continued, “The next day, I went to Daejeon and signed a lot of confidentiality agreements. They suggested we have lunch first, so I went to a restaurant where I had a meal with Lee Byung-hun, Lee Jung-jae, Kang Ha-neul, and the director who contacted me. I couldn’t believe I was eating with such famous actors just a day before my wedding. We talked about how they came to congratulate my wedding, how I got good at Gonggi, and so on. It was a shame that I couldn’t take a single photo or get an autograph due to the confidentiality.”
Park Jong-nam also mentioned, “The filming was not difficult since it was shot in one take from the first step to the end, but I was very nervous because I had to do it with the actors from the two-person three-legged race. We finished sooner than I expected after filming it about twice. I was impressed by how Kang Ha-neul kept calming my nerves before and after the shoot. He asked me to teach him how to play Gonggi, so I showed him and we kicked the Gonggi together. After filming, he even gave me some banchan bread from Seongsimdang for my wife. I can understand why everyone praises Kang Ha-neul.”
He added, “And after keeping it a secret for a year, ‘Squid Game’ is finally out today! I’m watching it with my wife, and it’s so much fun. Now that I’m in it, I hope it does even better! Go Squid Game!”
In ‘Squid Game’ Season 2, Kang Dae-ho (played by Kang Ha-neul) is shown playing Gonggi with impressive hand movements. Park Jong-nam appeared as Kang Ha-neul's hand double and showcased his skills.
Park Jong-nam previously appeared as a Gonggi master on SBS’s ‘Master of Living’ in 2021.
The Netflix series ‘Squid Game’ Season 2, released on the 26th, depicts the fierce confrontation between Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who vows revenge and returns to participate in the game, and the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), as well as the real game that begins again. Season 3 is scheduled to be released next year.
