After being caught driving under the influence three times and taking a break, rapper Gil (real name Gil Seong-jun), formerly of the duo Leessang, has returned as a YouTuber. As 'Infinite Challenge' approaches its 20th anniversary, the recent updates have drawn attention, especially since Gil was excluded from the photos and autographs of past cast members that were revealed.
Last month, Gil announced his return to activities on social media, saying, "Ten years ago, I was born and for the first time, I was hit twice by MC Yoo Jae-suk and then suddenly disappeared. The production team set out to find him; did they manage to meet him? I hope everyone watches."
The character "Geumgangbulgoe" is one that Gil showcased during various specials on the MBC variety show 'Infinite Challenge.' The accompanying photo included the phrase, "A man who has never been hit even once in his life. He who has lived without a gap is coming back. The indestructible says, 'Clowns, rise up.' A decade has passed. Now everyone rise and announce to the world the launch of Gil Seong-jun's channel."
Subsequently, he has been posting content on his YouTube channel 'Binnari Gil Seong-jun,' featuring scenes of him meditating at various locations such as beaches and parks, as well as introducing hip-hop masterpieces.
In a recently released video, Gil was seen visiting a fish market to meditate. He stated, "This place is busy and noisy, but we can find our own peace and tranquility amidst that noise," and began meditating while sitting on the floor in the market aisle. He humorously placed an octopus on his head and focused on meditation with a solemn expression.
Through narration, Gil shared, "Tranquility is not something found externally. It can be drawn out from within you. You already know the answer," and introduced meditation techniques to the viewers, saying, "Even amidst the whirlpool of life, we meditate and accept that flow."
Gil joined 'Infinite Challenge' in 2009 and made a name for himself through various specials, including the music festival. He reached the peak of his variety show career with 'Infinite Challenge,' but his license was revoked in April 2014 after being caught driving under the influence, leading to his departure from the show. He faced significant backlash after being caught driving under the influence again in 2017, with revelations that he had also been caught in 2004. He appeared on 'Dad's Back' in 2020, but has had no other broadcasting activities since then.
On the 16th, MBC released an unboxing video of the 'Infinite Challenge' 20th anniversary calendar on YouTube. At the end of the video, autographs and photos of members including Yoo Jae-suk, Park Myung-soo, Jung Jun-ha, Ha Ha, Hwang Kwang-hee, Jo Se-ho, Yang Se-hyung, and Jeon Jin were revealed. Messages from members who left midway, such as Jung Hyung-don and Noh Hong-chul, were also included, but there were no photos or autographs of Gil, raising curiosity.
