Film director Park Chan-wook actively participated in the rally calling for the impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol.
On the 14th, a bakery in Yeouido announced via social media, “All the bread baked today has been purchased by Director Park Chan-wook. It will be distributed to citizens who came to the Yeouido rally. We sincerely thank him.”
The bakery is reportedly owned by director Lee Cheol-ha, who directed films such as ‘Okay Madam’ and ‘Come to Me.’
The National Assembly held a vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon on the 7th, but it was discarded due to a lack of quorum. A second vote on the impeachment motion is scheduled for today at 4 PM. Consequently, protests demanding impeachment continue in the Yeouido area near the National Assembly and Gwanghwamun.
Director Park Chan-wook indirectly expressed his support for impeachment through this action for the citizens who took to the streets in the cold weather.
Director Park has consistently expressed his stance regarding the state of emergency that erupted on the 3rd. On the 7th, he conveyed his thoughts through a statement signed by filmmakers and 81 organizations, demanding the removal and arrest of “Yoon Seok-yeol, who is a current criminal of insurrection.”
In that statement, they declared, “The most dangerous entity to the existence of the Republic of Korea is Yoon Seok-yeol. Removing him from the presidential office is an urgent task to protect the democratic republic.” They raised their voices, stating, “To the filmmakers of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Seok-yeol is no longer the president. He is merely a current criminal of insurrection. Quickly suspend Yoon Seok-yeol’s presidential duties and remove and arrest him.”
Additionally, in an interview with MBC’s ‘Straight’ on the 8th, Director Park emphasized his stance on presidential impeachment, stating, “In the situation ahead of the impeachment vote, I think it is necessary for even one more person to participate to pressure the People Power Party members.”
