Trot singer Lim Young-woong has come under controversy after posting a message on social media celebrating his dog’s birthday.

On the 7th, Lim Young-woong posted a photo with his dog, Si-wool, on his social media, writing, “Happy birthday to our Si-wool.”

Afterward, a netizen sent a DM to Lim Young-woong’s account asking, “What are you doing in this situation?” and revealed a screenshot of the response, “What?”

In the photo, a netizen commented, “The whole nation is gathering over the impeachment of a president who declared martial law unconstitutionally, and while I don’t expect you to speak up, it’s really insensitive. Aren’t people in your main consumer demographic those who have experienced martial law?” The person presumed to be Lim Young-woong replied, “Am I a politician? Why should I speak up?”

Following this, netizens were divided into two camps: one arguing that it is an individual’s freedom for celebrities to express political views, and the other questioning whether it was necessary to post everyday photos in this situation. The controversy intensified, especially with claims that the person who sent the DM was a PD from a famous past entertainment program.

However, the identified PD stated, “It seems there’s an article saying I sent a DM to some celebrity, but I have never done such a thing. I don’t even follow the person mentioned in the article, and I have no idea what their daily life is like,” adding, “It was something I said to my friends, and I’m surprised it suddenly turned into a shout-out to the world,” completely denying the allegations and raising doubts about whether the DM was genuinely exchanged with Lim Young-woong.
