Actress Song Ok-sook candidly revealed the behind-the-scenes of her marriage and divorce from her foreign husband, leaving behind her glamorous prime.
On the 3rd, appearing on the YouTube channel 'Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life', Song Ok-sook recalled the moment she rose to stardom with the MBC drama 'Bestseller Theater' in the 1980s with the story 'A Woman Like a Live Octopus'.
She said, "Young people at that time recognized me a lot after seeing my performance of chewing live octopus," and laughed, "Aren't I the original compared to Choi Min-sik from the movie 'Oldboy'?"

At that time, in a drama market focused on melodrama, Song Ok-sook was noted for her strong and energetic characters. "Unlike other actresses, I took on many powerful and aggressive roles," she recalled, which led to continued offers for dramas and movies. She added, "I appeared in the films 'Dan' and 'Eomi' with the late director Park Cheol-soo, and won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards for 'An Afternoon of a Dog Day'."
After passing her glamorous twenties, in 1986, Song Ok-sook married a foreign man and moved to Hawaii. "Even while living in the U.S., I received calls and consistently filmed one project a year," she explained about that time.
Regarding her married life, she confessed, "There were almost no fights. If he were Korean, we would have fought saying, 'How could you do this to me?' But since we communicated in English, I couldn't express myself well, so fights didn't happen." However, the biggest issue was ultimately emotional differences.
Song Ok-sook revealed, "It wasn't that my husband had moral faults or debts. We just grew emotionally distant. I wondered what the point was in continuing a marriage when love had faded."
She suggested having children, but her husband distanced himself, saying, "If we have a child, I feel like I would be more restricted." Song Ok-sook stated, "In the end, he pushed me away," and decided to divorce after 11 years of marriage, returning to Korea to start her second life.
