Japanese film director Nobuhiro Yamashita revealed the reason for collaborating with Korean actress Bae Doona 20 years ago.
On the afternoon of the 12th, a press screening and media conference for the 20th anniversary 4K remaster re-release of 'Linda Linda Linda' was held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam, Seoul. Attendees included actress Bae Doona, Maeda Aki, Kashii Yuu, Sekine Shiori, and director Nobuhiro Yamashita.
Director Nobuhiro Yamashita opened up about why he cast Bae Doona as the exchange student Song in 'Linda Linda Linda' 20 years ago, saying, "I fell in love with the actress Bae Doona at first sight after watching Bong Joon-ho's film 'The Host'."
"I thought she would decline my offer, but I was surprised when she agreed," said director Nobuhiro Yamashita. "If it were now, I might not have made the offer due to various calculations, but being 28 years old was terrifying. I think it was a great decision to make the offer openly. I want to praise my 28-year-old self."
Regarding the meaning of the work 'Linda Linda Linda', he stated, "There is a line in the film that says, 'There is no meaning to the work.' I have never thought about the meaning either. I have mentioned this in various places before, but it wasn't because Bae Doona was a Korean actress that I wanted her to appear. I was attracted to the works she was in, and it just happened that she was a Korean actress."
The 4K remaster of 'Linda Linda Linda' is a film that depicts the clumsy yet sparkling youth of a high school girl band preparing for a festival to celebrate the end of their high school life, featuring Bae Doona in the lead role and directed by Nobuhiro Yamashita. It will be released on September 17.
