Singer and JYP Entertainment's chief producer Park Jin-young shared his thoughts on being appointed as the co-chairman of the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange.
On the 9th, Kang Hoon-sik, the Chief of Staff to the President, announced during a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office that "Producer Park Jin-young and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young have been appointed as co-chairs of the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange, a presidential body aimed at realizing President Lee Jae-myung's pledge of 'Five Major Cultural Powerhouses'."
Following this, Park Jin-young stated on his social media, "Taking on government work is a daunting and concerning task for someone in the entertainment industry, and I had many worries. However, I felt that K-pop is currently facing a very special opportunity, and I decided to take on this role with the belief that I must make the most of it."
He continued, "When I went to the U.S. in 2003 without any plans to distribute promotional materials for our singers to American record labels, and when the Wonder Girls became the first Korean group to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2009, my dream has remained the same: for K-pop to be loved worldwide." He emphasized, "I will organize the aspects that I felt needed institutional support while working in the field, so that effective support can be provided, and I will work hard to ensure that junior artists have more opportunities. I will do my best to help K-pop take another leap forward, not just to promote our culture, but to create a space for people around the world to understand and interact with each other."
Finally, Park Jin-young expressed, "As this is a task I am starting after much consideration, I ask for your advice and support. I would also like to sincerely thank Minister Choi Hwi-young of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for agreeing to take on this work with me. Thanks to you, I was able to find the courage."
Debuting in the music industry in 1992, Park Jin-young has since released hit songs such as "Don't Leave Me," "Elevator," "She Was Pretty," "Honey," and "The House You Live In." He established JYP Entertainment, named after himself, and has produced numerous K-pop artists including g.o.d, 2PM, Miss A, GOT7, DAY6, TWICE, Stray Kids, and ITZY, earning recognition as a producer.
