‘First Lady’ Ji Hyun-woo and Lee Min-young presented a touching ‘dramatic presidential election’ scene.
The new MBN mini-series ‘First Lady’ (written by Kim Hyung-wan, directed by Lee Ho-hyun), which will premiere on September 24 at 10:20 PM, tells the story of an unprecedented event where a husband elected as president demands a divorce from his wife, who is set to become the First Lady. The story unfolds over the remaining 67 days until the presidential inauguration, depicting the suffocating conflicts of the elected couple amidst political conspiracies and family secrets at a fast pace.
‘First Lady’ is a highly ambitious work completed by writer Kim Hyung-wan, who gained recognition for his excellent narrative tension and meticulous character composition through dramas like ‘Dream High 2’, ‘Hide Your Identity’, and the movie ‘Superstar Kamsah-yeong’, after six years of writing. In particular, actors with a wide spectrum of acting skills and explosive energy, including Yoo Jin, Ji Hyun-woo, Lee Min-young, Han Soo-ah, Shin So-yul, Kim Gi-bang, and Oh Seung-eun, come together to create a fantastic synergy.
In ‘First Lady’, Ji Hyun-woo plays Hyun Min-cheol, a factory worker who grew up in an orphanage and was elected president after running as a candidate for the National Assembly. Lee Min-young plays Shin Hae-rin, the chief of the president-elect Hyun Min-cheol’s (played by Ji Hyun-woo) campaign committee and his closest aide, providing a unique ‘political chemistry’ between the ‘elected and the secretary’.
In this regard, Ji Hyun-woo and Lee Min-young captured the rollercoaster of emotions from anxiety to tension to joy during the ‘moment of presidential election’. In the scene where Hyun Min-cheol and Shin Hae-rin watch the presidential election counting situation at the participating National Party’s counting room, Hyun Min-cheol watches the counting broadcast with a calm expression, while Shin Hae-rin appears anxious, with her hands clasped together, frozen in tension. As the election result is confirmed, the scene is filled with cheers, and Hyun Min-cheol receives a bouquet from Shin Hae-rin with a proud smile. Viewers are left wondering what kind of political path Hyun Min-cheol, who strikes a dignified pose with a clenched fist, and Shin Hae-rin, who silently stands by his side, will take in the future.
Meanwhile, Ji Hyun-woo and Lee Min-young drew attention with their detailed performances expressing the rapidly changing emotions in the ‘scene of the presidential election confirmation in the counting room’. Ji Hyun-woo calmly portrayed the emotional fluctuations leading up to the historic moment when Hyun Min-cheol is declared president, adding realism to the scene. Lee Min-young vividly depicted the emotional amplitude of Shin Hae-rin, who transforms from a tense expression to bursting with joy at the moment of election. The contrasting expressions and gazes of the two naturally intersected, emphasizing the narrative weight of the scene.
The production team stated, “Ji Hyun-woo and Lee Min-young dramatically expressed the camaraderie that blossomed at the political forefront, not just a moment of simple joy in this scene,” and added, “Please watch how the president-elect Ji Hyun-woo and his closest aide Lee Min-young will face fractures and catastrophes in the future.”
Meanwhile, MBN’s new mini-series ‘First Lady’ will premiere on September 24 at 10:20 PM.
