The story of a super-aged mother who succeeded in her first pregnancy 12 years after menopause has been revealed.
In the first episode of tvN STORY's ‘It's okay to be a Martian’, Park Mi-soon (71), who gave birth for the first time at the age of 58, appeared.
Born in 1955, Park is currently 71 years old. She got married at the age of 31 in 1985 and attempted in vitro fertilization for 10 years.
Park said, “I really wanted a child. I thought I would have a baby right after getting married, but when it didn’t happen, I got tested and was told my fallopian tubes were blocked,” adding, “After that, I tried in vitro fertilization for 10 years.”
Park, who experienced menopause at the age of 45, began to dream of pregnancy again when, miraculously, her menstruation started again 12 years later.
Park immediately visited a well-known infertility specialist, but the doctor's response was skeptical. After being refused treatment, Park decided to focus on getting healthy, visiting a traditional medicine clinic, cutting out flour, fried foods, and coffee, and adopting a vegetarian diet while exercising to improve her health.
Later, when she returned to the obstetrics and gynecology department, Park was diagnosed with a physical age of 38 and was able to attempt treatment, resulting in her first challenge of becoming pregnant with twins.
In September 2012, Park gave birth to healthy twins, breaking the record for the oldest mother in the country and making headlines.
A professor at Asan Medical Center, who treated Park's children, said, “The passion the mother showed in controlling her diet and exercising was remarkable,” adding, “It is a human victory and something everyone should celebrate.”
