Director Kim Hyung-seok, who directed 'Glamorous Days', revealed the directing points and behind-the-scenes stories.
KBS2's new weekend drama 'Glamorous Days' (directed by Kim Hyung-seok, written by So Hyun-kyung) is a family melodrama that resonates across generations, telling the story that "everyone has glamorous days, whether in the present, past, or future, meeting glamorous days with different meanings."
Director Kim Hyung-seok expressed, "Before the premiere of each work, excitement and fear always coexist," and added, "Writer So's script has depth, and the more I read it, the more new meanings I discover. My goal in directing is to properly express that depth," sharing his anticipation for his second collaboration with writer So Hyun-kyung.
Kim highlighted 'empathy' and 'comfort' as key directing points. He stated, "'Glamorous Days' deals with family and love. Each character has their own perspective and voice, but I hope it ultimately leads to a warm story where they blend together."
He introduced various characters as a major point of interest, explaining, "The work features characters that represent the diverse realities of our society. They conflict and clash, but ultimately, the process of understanding and healing each other is captured."
He continued, "I expect that the meticulous language and design of the writer will blend tension, warmth, and emotion," and added, "'Generations', 'family', and 'love' are always key keywords I keep in mind. I believe the writer shares similar thoughts in reflecting reality and capturing the spirit of the times," promising deep resonance with the viewers.
Director Kim also spoke about casting anecdotes and actor chemistry. "The first actor I cast was Choi Ho-jin. His role is so central that it is often referred to as writer So Hyun-kyung's 'father trilogy', and he showed a deep understanding and affection for the work," he said.
He also mentioned, "Actors Jung Il-woo, Jung In-sun, and Yoon Hyun-min fit their roles well and their acting skills were excellent, so I actively suggested them," adding, "Especially, Jung Il-woo and Jung In-sun voluntarily met often to study the script and practice together." Regarding the atmosphere on set, he remarked, "The consideration and harmony among the actors are very impressive. The atmosphere is among the best I've experienced in the dramas I've directed."
Director Kim Hyung-seok expressed, "More than any other message, I hope viewers feel the emotion of 'love'. I wish that the warmth of understanding each other warmly, even amidst conflict and wounds, is conveyed to the viewers through this drama. I hope that warmth can be a catalyst for spreading to others."
‘Glamorous Days’ will premiere on August 9 at 8 PM, following 'Eagle Five'.
