‘That’s What I Want to Know’ uncovers the truth behind the Daegu confinement prostitution case.

On the 12th, SBS's current affairs program ‘That’s What I Want to Know’ will reveal the shocking identities of the perpetrators who committed confinement and prostitution against women in their 20s in Daegu.

Suspicious Group and Escape Incident

Since 2023, residents have reported sightings of men and women in their 20s with tattoos and using foul language congregating in a newly built apartment in Daegu. Three men and women, along with a young child, were living together, and their habit of going out only at night raised suspicions of criminal activity among neighbors.

In May of last year, the case came to light when a missing person report was filed at a local police station in Daegu. A man claiming to be the husband of a woman who had suddenly disappeared called 112 to report her missing. The woman, 28-year-old Kim Eun-ah (pseudonym), had gotten into a taxi late at night and headed to her parents' house. Her parents were shocked by the story she shared upon returning home after living with a friend.

Co-habitants Who Forced 1,000 Acts of Prostitution

Eun-ah revealed that she had registered her marriage with a man in the group under the coercion of a woman named Tae. Shocked, her parents hired a lawyer to prepare for an annulment. However, her shocking confession continued. Eun-ah stated that she had been forced into prostitution over 1,000 times during the year and a half she was trying to escape the group.

“At home, I was a servant, and Tae Yu-jin (pseudonym) was the undisputed number one. The men were completely under Tae Yu-jin’s control and could do nothing.” - Kim Eun-ah (pseudonym) / Victim

The perpetrators included 20-year-old Tae and three other men in their 20s. They not only confined and assaulted Eun-ah but also subjected a woman in her 20s, So-hee (pseudonym), who was a mother, to confinement, violence, torture, and forced prostitution. The victims could only use mobile phones registered in the men's names when going out for prostitution, and when they attempted to escape several times, the perpetrators tracked them down using location tracking apps.

The Queen Bee and the Bizarre Co-habitation

“Tae led everything like a queen bee, and all the male suspects made her their girlfriend.” - Song Oh-kyung, Police Inspector / Team Leader of the Women and Youth Violent Crimes Division, Daegu Central Police Station

Inspector Song stated that in his 36 years of criminal investigation, he had never seen a case like this. Tae, who led the confinement, assault, and prostitution, had been living with two men who were the legal husbands of the victims, in addition to her own husband. One of them was Jo, So-hee's husband and the father of her child. Why did he ignore his wife's suffering while having an affair with Tae in the same house?

What kind of person is Tae, who led the bizarre cohabitation and grotesque crimes? What secret activities were taking place within the group where Tae reigned as the queen bee? You can find out in the episode of ‘That’s What I Want to Know’ airing on the 12th at 11:10 PM.
