As ‘Gwigung’ approaches its final episode today (7th), the main characters Yoo Seong-jae, Kim Ji-yeon, and Kim Ji-hoon have shared their thoughts on the conclusion.
SBS's Friday-Saturday drama ‘Gwigung’ is a fantasy romantic comedy about a shaman named Yeori who rejects the fate of a medium, and the Imugi, Kang Cheol, trapped in the body of her first love, Yoon Gap, as they confront the Eight-Footed Ghost, who harbors a grudge against the royal family, leading to a tangled battle for body and soul. It is the only competing show to surpass double-digit viewership ratings, maintaining the number one spot in its time slot for all episodes before airing and ranking first among mini-series aired in the week (according to Nielsen Korea).
The success of ‘Gwigung’ can be attributed to various elements, including the fresh storyline of the love between the Imugi and the shaman, the mysterious and spectacular narrative that begins with the Eight-Footed Ghost (played by Seo Do-young), and the strong presence of traditional Korean ghosts that serve as scene-stealers. The captivating character portrayals by Yoo Seong-jae (Kang Cheol/Yoon Gap), Kim Ji-yeon (Yeori), and Kim Ji-hoon (Lee Jeong) are considered the main contributors to the show's success. The leading trio, Yoo Seong-jae, Kim Ji-yeon, and Kim Ji-hoon, have drawn attention by expressing their feelings as the show comes to an end.
Yoo Seong-jae, who has brilliantly portrayed both the ‘Imugi’ Kang Cheol and the ‘human’ Yoon Gap, and has seamlessly transitioned into a half-human, half-god role, has transformed into a ‘fantasy genius’. He expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am very thankful for the overwhelming interest and love I have received until now,” repeatedly thanking the viewers.
He continued, “The final episode features a climactic showdown with the Eight-Footed Ghost. The conflict between the royal family and the Eight-Footed Ghost reaches its peak, and the sacrifices made by Kang Cheol and Yeori for each other will make this last episode more emotionally charged and entertaining than any scene we have shown so far. There are still exciting scenes left, so please look forward to the finale until the end.”

Kim Ji-yeon, who played Yeori, a delicate and strong healer who frees the spirits of the dead, has been loved for her unique shaman character. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I am very thankful for the immense love and interest I have received during this time. I was able to grow and learn a lot through Yeori, and it has been a valuable experience. I hope ‘Gwigung’ will be a work that viewers will remember for a long time, and I would love for everyone to stay with us until the very end.”
Kim Ji-hoon, who showcased the aura of a benevolent king and the charisma of a villain possessed by the Eight-Footed Ghost, has created a life-changing character. He stated, “I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has joined us on this long journey with ‘Gwigung’. The final episode will reveal all the accumulated grudges and resolve all the plot threads. It will be the most condensed energy of the drama ‘Gwigung’, so I hope you will stay with us until the end.”
In the 15th episode, the Eight-Footed Ghost neutralized the Gyeonggwisuk (a stone that chases away ghosts) and took the lives of the queen (played by Han So-eun) and her unborn child, possessing King Lee Jeong's body and wielding royal power to eliminate Kang Cheol and Yeori in a shocking turn of events. With Kang Cheol and Yeori now fugitives, their only remaining option is to sacrifice each other's lives. The question remains whether Kang Cheol and Yeori can defeat the all-powerful Eight-Footed Ghost, what will happen to Kang Cheol's fate, who has always wished to become a dragon and ascend, and how their poignant love story will conclude, drawing keen interest.
‘Gwigung’ will air its final episode today (7th) at 9:50 PM.
