Comedian Yoo Jae-suk shared his thoughts on malicious comments.
On the 14th, media expert Professor Yoo Hyun-jae appeared as a guest on tvN's 'Yoo Quiz on the Block'.
On this day, Yoo Jae-suk asked, "The issue these days is malicious comments. Aren't there many malicious comments that go too far? Is there a reason for the increase in these comments?" Professor Yoo Hyun-jae responded, "I think the public is playing a kind of game. When an irresponsible YouTuber or cyber bully designates a target, the public inevitably makes a value judgment that 'I can attack that person.' They say the most insulting things to the designated target."
He continued, "Would they do that even if it were under their real names? Would they do that face-to-face offline? When we ask about comments that are extremely harsh, to the point of being excremental, they say, 'Was I the only one?' or 'Did I really hit them?' However, in a hyper-connected society, attacking someone online has a much greater impact. I hope laws related to media that reflect these aspects are established."
On the other hand, Professor Yoo Hyun-jae mentioned, "Whenever I get inquiries about laws related to YouTube and SNS, I always refer to examples from Europe. In Europe, platforms that host hate posts can be fined 70 billion won and are required to delete such content within 24 hours. This serves as a wake-up call to society. We shouldn't invoke the noble value of freedom of expression to avoid restrictions imposed by the state. I hope such laws are created in detail."
Yoo Jae-suk stated, "I don't think we should have to endure malicious comments. It's heartbreaking, especially when unfortunate things happen. It's so sad and painful to think that we should just accept them." To this, Professor Yoo Hyun-jae empathized, "How on earth can one endure such insults?"
Meanwhile, 'Yoo Quiz on the Block' airs every Wednesday at 8:45 PM.
