The director of 'Gwigung' mentioned the popularity of his previous work 'Treasure Island'.

On the 17th, the production presentation for SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama 'Gwigung' (written by Yoon Soo-jung, directed by Yoon Sung-sik) took place at SBS Hall located in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by director Yoon Sung-sik, along with actors Yook Sung-jae, Kim Ji-yeon, and Kim Ji-hoon. The event was hosted by broadcaster Park Kyung-rim.

'Gwigung' is a fantasy romantic comedy about a shaman named Yeori (Kim Ji-yeon) who rejects the fate of a medium, and the dragon spirit Kang Cheol-i (Yook Sung-jae) trapped in the body of her first love, Yoon Gap (Yook Sung-jae), as they confront a vengeful spirit with a grudge against the royal family. It is a story of exorcism featuring various spirits from folklore, as well as a love story between the evil spirit Kang Cheol-i, who could not become a dragon, and the shaman Yeori.

'Gwigung' is the follow-up drama to the successful 'Treasure Island', which recorded a viewership rating of 15%. In this regard, director Yoon stated, "The previous work 'Treasure Island' did well, and honestly, it is burdensome. However, I am just grateful to be able to air during SBS's prime time slot," adding, "It has to be a work that meets those expectations, but I don't know how it will turn out. I can say that it is a work made with the utmost effort."

He continued, "If I were to describe the feeling so far, I have confidence in (the box office). It's hard to predict with viewership numbers. I think the genre and target audience are different from 'Treasure Island'. I believe it is content that can be enjoyed by all generations and is universally appealing. I expect it to be a work that people will generally like," he expressed. Kim Ji-hoon also briefly added, "The energy is good."

The 'fresh acting combination' of Yook Sung-jae, Kim Ji-yeon, and Kim Ji-hoon is receiving high expectations. Yook Sung-jae plays Yoon Gap, the first love of Yeori and the shaman possessed by the evil spirit 'Kang Cheol-i', while Kim Ji-yeon plays Yeori, who rejects the fate of a shaman and lives as a craftsman of glasses. Among them, Kim Ji-hoon plays the fictional king 'Lee Jeong', who confronts the vengeful spirit with a grudge against the royal family.

Director Yoon Sung-sik, who has been recognized for his reliable entertainment through dramas like 'Mr. Queen', 'The Best Lee Soon-shin', 'Gaksital', and 'Dae Jo Yeong', has teamed up with writer Yoon Soo-jung, who wrote 'The King's Face' and 'Boldly Go Go'.

SBS's new drama 'Gwigung' will premiere on the 18th at 9:50 PM.
