TBS PD Association Honored with Contribution Award at Korean PD Awards

The TBS PD Association received the Contribution Award at this year's 'Korean PD Awards'.

Today (9th) afternoon, at the 37th 'Korean PD Awards' ceremony held at the KBS Annex Public Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, the TBS PD Association was honored with the Contribution Award.

The Korean PD Federation presented the Contribution Award to the 'TBS PD Association' as a gesture of solidarity for TBS PDs who are striving for channel normalization despite the threat to their livelihoods after being released from the Seoul City public institution.

Since the enforcement of the ordinance abolishing the Seoul City Council in June last year, TBS has been suffering from severe financial difficulties, with the complete suspension of Seoul City subsidies leading to unpaid wages, rent, management fees, and other basic operating costs. Nevertheless, TBS PDs continue to produce broadcasts to ensure that programming does not stop, operating under an emergency broadcasting system despite a lack of personnel and budget.

Kim Ok-rang, president of the TBS PD Association, stated, "The reason we continue to produce broadcasts even in difficult situations is because there are people who wait for and support TBS," and added, "Today, we stand on the stage of the Korean PD Awards to receive this precious Contribution Award, but I promise to create good content that resonates and touches hearts so that we can stand here again next time."

Additionally, Kim Hyun-woo, a radio PD who attended the ceremony, expressed, "I hope this award serves as encouragement for my colleagues who work hard every day, not shying away from temporary jobs for their livelihoods," and urged, "I sincerely hope that the relevant authorities will make prompt decisions to ensure that TBS broadcasting does not stop and continues."

Following the re-licensing of terrestrial broadcasters by the Korea Communications Commission, TBS plans to seek solutions to overcome the financial crisis and normalize broadcasting by dispelling uncertainties about the continuity of broadcasting and operating a stable public interest corporation system.
