Actor Lee Dong-wook has returned to romantic comedy after 7 years.
On the afternoon of the 24th, an online live-streamed production presentation for tvN's new Monday-Tuesday drama 'Divorce Insurance' was held. Director Lee Won-seok, and actors Lee Dong-wook, Lee Joo-bin, Lee Kwang-soo, and Lee Da-hee attended the event.
'Divorce Insurance' is a pure guarantee office romantic comedy that presents a divorce insurance product to cope with the hottest disaster of our time, divorce, from the innovative product development team of an insurance company filled with the best brains.
Director Lee Won-seok, who is making his directorial debut with this drama, said, "I had been declining drama offers because I lacked confidence in directing, but after reading the script for 'Divorce Insurance', I found myself going to the production company to say I would do it. I have come this far with good staff and good actors," and added, "It was different from any drama I had read before. I was drawn to the unique worldview within the drama."
'Divorce Insurance' features Lee Dong-wook, Lee Joo-bin, Lee Kwang-soo, and Lee Da-hee. Regarding the casting, he explained, "Personally, I love Lee Dong-wook. I thought I had to work with him no matter what. So I presented the script to him. I thought Lee Joo-bin was perfect because she listens well to others even in private settings. Lee Kwang-soo is a very delicate person. I was looking for someone with a bright personality, and that was Lee Kwang-soo. I thought Lee Da-hee was the ideal choice for an iconic character that everyone admires."
Lee Dong-wook plays the role of No Gi-jun, an insurance actuary in the innovative product development team at Plus Loss Insurance, who has experienced three divorces and appears to be the perfect man with both qualifications and expertise.
Lee Dong-wook explained, "Many people ask if it’s burdensome to play a character with a lot of divorce experience, but it wasn't. Gi-jun's divorces are not due to someone’s fault but rather an acknowledgment of differing personalities. I thought I could portray a character with that kind of personality well."
Lee Dong-wook is challenging romantic comedy after a long time. He said, "Among my previous works, there were many genres, intense characters, and fantasy elements, so this time I wanted to do something comfortable and easy to watch," adding, "When I roughly counted, it has been about 6-7 years since I did a romantic comedy. I was happy about it. The best part was that my body felt comfortable. I really enjoyed the process of matching the comedic elements after a long time."
Lee Joo-bin passionately plays the role of Kang Han-deul, an underwriter at the insurance company who is reborn through divorce.
Lee Joo-bin opened up by saying, "The script was fresh and resonated with me, so I decided to participate with a grateful heart."
Regarding her character, she explained, "Kang Han-deul is very patient and considerate, but if she makes a mistake, she can come off as indecisive and frustrating. However, her serious and quirky side makes her lovable."
Lee Kwang-soo takes on the role of Safety Man, a cautious and prudent safety-first advocate.
Lee Kwang-soo said, "It's a brainy role. In fact, I think it's the smartest role I've played so far. There are many difficult words in the dialogue. I'm looking forward to it a lot."
Lee Da-hee plays Jeon Na-rae, a financial mathematician who views the world solely from an investment perspective.
Lee Da-hee shared her thoughts on her role, saying, "Na-rae has no regrets in any of her choices and is confident. I felt that I could showcase my strengths well. The biggest reason I wanted to participate was to match my rhythm with actors like Lee Dong-wook and Lee Kwang-soo."
'Divorce Insurance' has garnered attention even before its broadcast because all four main cast members share the surname 'Lee.'
Lee Dong-wook said, "It was absolutely unintentional," adding, "The marketing team really liked it." He continued jokingly, "Even if we weren't all 'Lee's, we could have changed it briefly for the sake of the drama."
'Divorce Insurance' will premiere on Monday, the 31st, at 8:50 PM.
