Singer and actress Jisoo has made a strong impression on viewers with her multi-dimensional character.
In episodes 5 and 6 of the Coupang Play series 'Newtopia', released on the 28th of last month and the 7th, Jisoo maximized the character's charm with her expressive portrayal that oscillates between thrilling battles and poignant romance.
'Newtopia' tells the story of soldier Jae-yoon (played by Park Jung-min) and his girlfriend Young-joo (played by Jisoo) as they run towards each other across a zombie-infested Seoul.
In episode 5, when Young-joo reaches A Tower where Jae-yoon is, she tries to avoid the zombies swarming the main entrance and heads to the parking lot. However, she ends up fighting desperately with a golf club on top of a car as zombies attack her in the parking lot. The scene where Young-joo, who was saved from danger by Alex (played by Lee Hak-joo), cries out in grief after he ultimately falls victim to the horde of zombies touched the hearts of viewers.
After being in hiding, Young-joo finally gets in touch with her boyfriend Jae-yoon and sheds tears of joy. Despite being surrounded by zombies, he reassures her, saying, "I will protect you," continuing his courageous and devoted love, which evokes deep emotions.
The chemistry between Young-joo and the team member, a repeat student (played by Tang Jun-sang), is also highlighted as he leaves the team due to becoming a zombie. Young-joo, worried about the repeat student who is left alone, repeatedly says "Be careful" as a final farewell, bringing a touching moment.
In the following episode 6, Young-joo, now alone after her senior Jin-wook (played by Kang Young-seok) also leaves her side, embarks on a full-on confrontation with the zombies, raising the tension. After losing the car she was in and being forced onto the road, Young-joo enters a subway station to get to Suseo Station, where Jae-yoon is safe, but finds the subway filled with zombies. While searching for survival weapons, she discovers a long-awaited chainsaw and exclaims "Score!" with sparkling eyes.
Equipped with a chainsaw and a helmet, Young-joo fights off the approaching zombies one after another, showcasing her enhanced survival skills. However, as she finds herself cornered and overwhelmed, viewers are left wondering if Young-joo can escape the crisis and reunite with Jae-yoon.
Meanwhile, Jisoo is experiencing a career high with her recently released solo mini-album 'AMORTAGE' and the title track 'earthquake', sweeping global music charts. She is also set to hold a fan meeting tour 'LIGHTS, LOVE, ACTION!' in seven Asian cities including Manila, Bangkok, Tokyo, Macau, Taipei, Hong Kong, and Hanoi in 2025. As an actress, Jisoo is actively participating in various projects, including 'Newtopia', the upcoming film 'All-Rounder Reader' set to be released in July, and the Netflix series 'Monthly Boyfriend'.
