From IU to Park Bo-gum, Moon So-ri, and Park Hae-joon, they came together with an unbearable affection. It truly is a dream team gathered for ‘Completely Deceived’.
On the morning of the 5th, at the Grand Ballroom of the Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeouido, IU said at the production presentation of Netflix's new K-series ‘Completely Deceived’ (directed by Kim Won-seok, written by Lim Sang-chun), “This is my second project with director Kim Won-seok, and I have been a fan of writer Lim Sang-chun, so as soon as I received the offer to participate, I wanted to do it.”
She continued, “I was eager even before reading the script, and after reading it, I wanted to participate so badly that I couldn’t bear it. I said I would join less than a day later,” showing her deep affection.
Park Bo-gum also expressed, “I was a fan of writer Lim Sang-chun,” and added, “Director Kim Won-seok is a director with delicate directing skills. I had expectations about being able to work with him. The four seasons spent with Ae-sun are so lovely and lingered in my heart. I think when I watch this work with my family in the future, I will feel that it was really good to be a part of it.”
IU showed her affection for Park Bo-gum, saying, “He is a friend of the same age, and we have known each other since our teens, so I think we matched comfortably. He is a great partner,” to which Park Bo-gum responded, “It was really nice and comfortable.”
‘Completely Deceived’ is a Netflix series that unfolds the adventurous life of Ae-sun, a ‘feisty rebel’ born in Jeju, and Gwan-sik, a ‘foolish iron man’, through the four seasons. ‘Completely Deceived’ is a Jeju dialect meaning ‘Thank you for your hard work’. It features Park Bo-gum, IU, Moon So-ri, Park Hae-joon, and others.
Moon So-ri shared, “I cried a lot when I first read the script. I have never cried this much over a work,” and added, “I thought I had to do it, so I asked, ‘Who will play young Ae-sun?’ and they said IU would. I thought, ‘Oh, that’s a problem,’” which brought laughter.
He continued, “I really wanted to do it, but I hesitated, wondering if it was possible for IU to become me, and I got scared. I really felt like, ‘What should I do? This is awkward.’ I believed that the staff and the director would help, and with that faith, I gathered the courage to try.”
He added, “IU filmed first, and I thought a lot about that connection. I observed her and tried to match her speech, even changing our lines to read together. I acted while marking points in the same position as IU. I put myself in a self-hypnosis.”
He emphasized, “When I look at my mother’s appearance in my childhood, it can be natural to think, ‘Is this my mom?’ So I tried to connect some parts while differentiating others.”
Park Hae-joon expressed, “I was nervous when the director asked about the schedule. I was eagerly waiting for contact.”
He continued, “I read the script and was so excited for several days. I found the script very enjoyable. I remember worrying that it might change and I wouldn’t get cast.”
Director Kim Won-seok stated, “It was planned as a tribute to the grandparents' generation, the parents' generation, and a support song for the children’s generation,” and added, “I feel that the invisible walls between generations, genders, and people are gradually getting higher. I made this hoping that they would be broken down a little.”
It will be released on March 7, 14, 21, and 28, in four installments. It consists of a total of 16 episodes.
