The ramen cooking competition, which is a matter of pride for the members of ‘1 Night 2 Days’, has begun.
In the episode aired on the 2nd, KBS2's entertainment show ‘1 Night 2 Days Season 4’ (hereafter ‘1 Night 2 Days’) depicted the first story of the six members competing in a cooking battle using Korea's soul food, ‘ramen’. This broadcast recorded a viewership rating of 8.3% (Nielsen Korea nationwide standard), ranking first in its time slot. The scene where the wok genius DinDin added seafood to ‘Spicy Jajang Ramen’ soared to a peak rating of 12.9%.
The Cheongyang Expedition Team (Kim Jong-min, Moon Se-yoon, Yoo Seon-ho) started filming in Cheongyang-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, while the Sunchang Expedition Team (Jo Se-ho, Lee Joon, DinDin) began their shoot in Sunchang-gun, Jeollabuk-do. Both teams, entering the representative hot pepper production areas of Korea, embarked on a serious journey for the ‘Spicy Ramen Cooking Battle’.
The members set out on their mission, each betting on their prepared winning ingredients. In the first mission, both teams had to return one ingredient each, but they managed to acquire Cheongyang red pepper powder and Sunchang gochujang, which would be the main ingredients for the ramen, and headed to the next mission location.
While pondering what kind of ramen to make during their move, DinDin called chef Baek Jong-won for help and obtained the recipe for ‘Spicy Jajang Ramen’. Lee Joon also received the cooking method for ‘Gochujang Stew Ramen’ from chef Yoon Nam-no, heightening the anticipation for the competition.
Upon arriving at their next destination, the Cheongyang Expedition Team and the Sunchang Expedition Team challenged the mission ‘The Great Nose is Excellent’, which involved guessing three ingredients solely by the residual smells of a microwave and a pressure cooker. Both teams successfully completed the mission after three attempts, barely securing one serving of food and the ingredients.
After lunch, the two teams purchased additional ingredients at a market and finally faced each other at the cooking competition venue. Before the competition began, special MCs comedians Choi Seong-min and Im Woo-il made a surprise appearance, introducing themselves as the budget versions of Kim Sung-joo and Ahn Jung-hwan, officially announcing the start of the cooking battle ‘Please Give Me the Spicy Flavor’.
In this competition, which has a total time limit of 15 minutes with each team cooking in a relay for 5 minutes, Yoo Seon-ho from the Cheongyang Expedition Team and Lee Joon from the Sunchang Expedition Team were the first to step up. Both of them, lacking cooking experience, caused their teammates to worry with their clumsy knife skills, and after a series of ups and downs, they passed the baton to the second players.
As relief pitchers, Kim Jong-min and DinDin continued cooking in their own styles. Despite the limited time remaining, the dishes from both teams were not taking shape, and the MCs expressed their concerns about the incomplete cooking, saying, “Are we going to end up eating raw ramen?”
As the time limit for the second players also expired, the fate of both teams rested in the hands of the ace and last players, Moon Se-yoon and Jo Se-ho. With their different cooking styles and skills, viewers are increasingly curious about what kind of ramen they will present and which team will ultimately emerge victorious in the cooking competition.
