Actress Cha Joo-young clarified the rumors about being a silver spoon in the financial industry.
On the 19th, Cha Joo-young appeared as a guest on tvN's ‘You Quiz on the Block’.
On that day, Yoo Jae-suk opened by saying, “You might wonder, ‘Where did Cha Joo-young suddenly come from?’ but she has been debuting for 10 years this year. Originally, she majored in business administration in the U.S. That also suits her.” Cha Joo-young replied, “I was in a rural area called Utah.”
When Yoo Jae-suk mentioned, “Cha Joo-young majored in business administration at Utah State University and studied abroad in Malaysia during middle school,” Jo Se-ho chimed in, “There are rumors about her being a silver spoon in finance.” Cha Joo-young clarified, “Not at all. It’s true that my father works in finance, and my relatives also work in the financial sector, so I grew up seeing that and naturally thought I would go that way. Plus, it looked cool.”
She continued, “I didn’t go abroad because I wanted to; I was sent after a week of dancing. I thought I was going to the U.S., but suddenly I was told to go to Malaysia, and I asked, ‘Why?’ When I opened my eyes, I was in Malaysia. They said they wanted me to experience the Asian market directly or indirectly before going to the U.S. or the UK for my undergraduate studies.”
Yoo Jae-suk joked, “If you hadn’t become an actress, you might have appeared in the news as a fund manager or analyst in finance and eventually ended up here.” Jo Se-ho also chimed in, “The legendary Catherine Cha. Doesn’t it suit her?”
Yoo Jae-suk asked, “Why did you switch to acting?” Cha Joo-young replied, “I was thinking about going into finance, but I wondered what job I could do to leave a mark on myself before it was too late. When I was young, there was a TV cover, and I wanted to tear it off and enter that world. I thought I could study later, so I decided to choose what my heart was drawn to.”
Cha Joo-young mentioned that she had a hard time before becoming an actress due to her father's opposition, saying, “My father is a very decisive person. He invests in places with investment value. He must have been surprised that a child who went abroad suddenly wanted to become an actress.”
Cha Joo-young confessed to her father that she wanted to become an actress after filming the drama ‘Cheese in the Trap’. She said, “My father said, ‘I’ll give you a penalty fee, so quit.’ He didn’t even know how much the penalty fee was,” which drew laughter.
