Tving is once again presenting a 19+ historical drama, 'Chunhwa Love Story.'
On the afternoon of the 5th, a production presentation for the Tving original series 'Chunhwa Love Story' was held at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Yongsan, Seoul. Director Lee Kwang-young, Go Ara, Jang Ryul, Kang Chan-hee, Son Woo-hyun, and Han Seung-yeon attended.
'Chunhwa Love Story' is a romantic youth historical drama set against the backdrop of a sensational love story collection, where the princess Hwari (played by Go Ara), who has failed in her first love, declares her intention to find a husband herself, leading to a love triangle with the city's top playboy Hwan (played by Jang Ryul) and the best groom candidate Jang-won (played by Kang Chan-hee).
Director Lee Kwang-young, known for the 'My Daughter, Geum Sa-wol' series and 'Love is a Verb', collaborates with writer Seo Eun-jung, who has written sitcoms like 'Hospital Playlist', 'New Nonstop', 'Rainbow Romance', and 'I Wish the Earth Would End Tomorrow'.
Director Lee Kwang-young stated, "This work is set in a fictional era where men and women are distinct and a class system exists, based on a sensational love story collection. Rather than focusing solely on the sensational aspects, we concentrated on why someone would write such a book in this era. I hope viewers pay attention to that aspect."
Go Ara plays the role of Princess Hwari, depicting her independent journey as a royal princess. After a five-year hiatus, Go Ara expressed, "It feels like I took a long break to film such an interesting project. I was attracted to the message the work conveys, which led me to choose this project."
Originally, the role of Princess Hwari was being filmed by Go Ah-sung, but she had to drop out due to an injury, and Go Ara was brought in as a replacement. Go Ara said, "I am grateful. I was fortunate to receive this good project on short notice. I was already prepared as I was working on another historical drama. After reading the script, I found a lot of empathy with Princess Hwari's character. I am thankful to have started filming quickly."
Jang Ryul plays the role of 'Choi Hwan', the first husband candidate and the wealthiest man in the city. Jang Ryul, who is challenging himself with his first historical drama, shared, "After reading the script, I thought, 'The charm is like an onion.' I felt that if I express this work well, I could grow as an actor."
Go Ara and Jang Ryul will share a romantic chemistry. Jang Ryul remarked, "I was surprised by Go Ara's rich emotions. I received a lot of help while filming my first historical drama." Go Ara responded, "I was very happy to film with Jang Ryul. We gained a lot of synergy by working together. I feel like I worked with a really good actor, and I want to convey that feeling."
'Chunhwa Love Story' is categorized as 19+, like other recent Tving originals such as 'Queen Woo' and 'Won-gyeong', featuring numerous high-level scenes. In this regard, Director Lee Kwang-young added, "I didn't think the level of explicitness was very important while filming."
He continued, "The story depicts breaking away from unnecessary customs, and in that process, the solidarity of women shines. I hope you will watch until the end."
Han Seung-yeon mentioned, "Because of my existing image, some may think, 'Can Han Seung-yeon do this?' I have been an adult since my debut. While acting, I thought it was a natural part of expressing the love narrative of the character, and I tried to create it beautifully. I hope everyone will view it lovingly," expressing her determination regarding the 19+ scenes.
Finally, Go Ara stated, "Whether it succeeds or not depends on whether the public resonates with it," but added, "We filmed it very well on set. I am grateful that we poured our hearts into this project, and I hope it will be conveyed to those who watch."
The Tving original 'Chunhwa Love Story' consists of a total of 10 episodes, with the first and second episodes set to be released on Thursday, the 6th, at 12 PM on Tving.
