The special broadcast ‘K-Pop The Beginning: SMTOWN 30’, which encompasses the 30-year history of SM, the very essence of K-POP, will air on SBS as a Lunar New Year special in 2025.
‘K-Pop The Beginning: SMTOWN 30’ is a two-part special program that reflects on the journey of SM over the past 30 years, which has colored the world with ‘Pink Blood’ beyond South Korea.
Part 1 will spotlight the stories of artists who are the main figures of the ‘Pink Syndrome’, including H.O.T. and S.E.S., the ‘original idols’ that marked the beginning of the K-POP syndrome, BoA, who shook Japan as the ‘Star of Asia’, TVXQ and Super Junior, who opened the era of global fandom, and Girls' Generation, who became the first love of a generation.
Part 2 will focus on SMP (SM Music Performance), which creatively combines the songs and choreography of SM artists into a unique genre, as well as the worldview (SM Culture Universe).
It will trace the lineage starting from Hyun Jin-young to SHINee, EXO, Red Velvet, aespa, NCT, and RIIZE. Additionally, it will reveal how artists who will be responsible for SM's future are born through the long-accumulated know-how of SM, elite staff, and a systematic system.
This broadcast will feature performances from the ‘SMTOWN LIVE 2025 [THE CULTURE, THE FUTURE] in SEOUL’ concert, which was successfully held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on January 11 and 12, along with candid interview videos of artists from various generations and unreleased footage. ‘K-Pop The Beginning: SMTOWN 30’ will be broadcast on SBS during the Lunar New Year holiday.
