Comedian Lee Kyung-sil reveals the story of her estrangement from her son Son Bo-seung.
In the TV Chosun entertainment program ‘Lovers of Joseon’, which airs for the first time on the 13th at 10 PM, comedian Lee Kyung-sil and her son, actor Son Bo-seung, share their feelings about the moment they severed their mother-son relationship.
In 2022, Son Bo-seung became a father at the young age of 23 due to a premarital pregnancy. Upon hearing this news, Lee Kyung-sil declared a ‘cut-off’ with her son, drawing significant public attention.
Lee Kyung-sil recalled, “My son, who hasn’t even gone to the military, became a father at 23… There was no way to handle it.” She continued, “The deed was already done, and just because you made a mistake doesn’t mean parents have to accept everything. I had to make it clear that responsibility comes with it, so I had no choice but to be more stern.” This revealed her struggle as a mother to guide her son. In response, Kang Soo-ji and Hwang Bo-ra expressed their understanding, saying, “We can relate.”
However, Son Bo-seung had a different perspective. He expressed a bitter reaction, saying, “I didn’t want to rely on my mom. She didn’t trust me.” He added, “I’m not just trying; I’m doing what I should be doing. Because I’m ‘Lee Kyung-sil’s son,’ it’s funny that working feels like something mature. I’m a dad and the head of the household… but my mom is not the head of our house.” Kim Gook-jin sided with Son Bo-seung, saying, “I completely agree with what Bo-seung said,” while Hwang Bo-ra sighed, saying, “I can relate, but I also understand the mother’s perspective.”
The first step towards mending the relationship between Lee Kyung-sil and Son Bo-seung, who are experiencing conflict from their differing viewpoints, can be seen in the extreme realism documentary entertainment ‘Lovers of Joseon’ airing on Monday, the 13th at 10 PM.
