In ‘The Call You Just Made,’ Yoo Yeon-seok has left Chae Soo-bin's side.
In the 11th episode of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama ‘The Call You Just Made’ (planned by Kwon Seong-chang, directed by Park Sang-woo and Wi Deuk-kyu, written by Kim Ji-woon), Baek Sa-eon (played by Yoo Yeon-seok), who has lived a life under someone else's name, ultimately disappeared.
The viewership rating for the 11th episode rose to 8.3% nationwide and 8.8% in the metropolitan area (according to Nielsen Korea), setting a new record for the show. The 2049 viewership rating, a key indicator of content competitiveness, also ranked first in its time slot with 2.5%. A scene where Hong Hee-joo (played by Chae Soo-bin) reminisces about Sa-eon and imagines a happy moment peaked at a momentary rating of 10.5%.
Sa-eon arrived at the accident scene where Hee-joo had fallen into the river with the kidnapper (played by Park Jae-yoon). However, he could not find any trace of Hee-joo at the tragic accident site. Hee-joo's family members, Hong In-ah (played by Han Jae-yi), Hong Il-kyung (played by Choi Kwang-il), and Kim Yeon-hee (played by Oh Hyun-kyung), were devastated upon hearing the news that the car Hee-joo was in had fallen into the river.
Sa-eon was also afraid that he might lose Hee-joo forever, but he soon regained his composure and began to assess the situation. He directed his suspicions towards Shim Gyu-jin (played by Chu Sang-mi), who was the only one not present at the accident scene. After confirming that Gyu-jin's vehicle's black box had been deleted, Sa-eon requested a search warrant from the investigating officer, Kang Hyung-cheol (played by Lee Doo-seok), and his suspicions gradually turned into conviction.
Ji Sang-woo (played by Heo Nam-jun) and Na Yu-ri (played by Jang Gyu-ri) also struggled to find the missing Hee-joo. During the search, Hee-joo's belongings were discovered, and although Hyung-cheol stated that the chances of Hee-joo's survival were low, Sa-eon firmly replied, “Talk to me when a body is found.” His unwavering love for Hee-joo, refusing to give up on her, moved the hearts of viewers.
As the investigation into Gyu-jin faced difficulties, Sa-eon tipped off the police about evidence of murder that could bind Gyu-jin. After confirming the decisive evidence, Hyung-cheol urgently arrested Gyu-jin at a press conference for Baek Ui-yong (played by Yoo Seong-joo). The shocking fact was that the victim of Gyu-jin's murder was her father-in-law, Baek Jang-ho (played by Jung Dong-hwan).
Sa-eon began a full interrogation of the arrested Gyu-jin. During this process, it was revealed that Gyu-jin had secretly taken Hee-joo and the kidnapper away right after the accident, shocking the viewers. Sa-eon confirmed Gyu-jin's scheme to return the pain of living without knowing the fate of his beloved to himself, Baek Jang-ho's biological son. He stated, “If it were my mother, she would have found a way to torment you even more,” firmly believing that Gyu-jin would have kept Hee-joo alive, creating a psychological battle between the two mothers that left viewers breathless.
Using the CCTV footage stored on Gyu-jin's phone, Sa-eon pinpointed Hee-joo's location and headed straight to Baek Jang-ho's ancestral home. At that moment, Hee-joo had escaped with the help of Min Secretary (played by Hong Seo-jun), but her anxiety heightened as she was chased again by the armed kidnapper. While fleeing from the kidnapper, Hee-joo finally reunited with Sa-eon, and their heartfelt embrace brought tears to everyone's eyes.
However, the kidnapper rampaged and persistently blocked their way. Sa-eon, leaving Hee-joo in the car, faced the kidnapper and tried to calmly resolve the situation. But after hearing the kidnapper's whispered words, Sa-eon looked at Hee-joo with a disbelieving expression. The kidnapper, hoping to break Sa-eon, aimed the gun at him again, creating a tense situation that escalated to a gunshot.
At the end of the broadcast, Hee-joo was shown alone at home, waiting for contact from her missing husband. She anxiously answered a call from an overseas number. Amidst the silence, her desperate question, “Is that you?” stirred the hearts of viewers. It raised expectations about whether Hee-joo and Sa-eon could reunite after overcoming adversity.
The final episode of ‘The Call You Just Made’ will air on the 4th at 9:50 PM.
