The ‘2024 KBS Acting Awards’ has been cancelled.
On the 30th, KBS announced in an official press release, “Korean Broadcasting KBS will cancel the scheduling of the ‘2024 KBS Acting Awards’ and the ‘2025 Countdown Show LIGHT NOW’ to join in mourning for the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster.”
It continued, “The ‘2024 KBS Acting Awards’, which was scheduled to be broadcast live on KBS-2TV at 7 PM on the 31st, will cancel the photo wall event and live broadcast, and will instead proceed as a recorded broadcast.” It added, “The schedule for the recorded broadcast of the ‘2024 KBS Acting Awards’ and the announcement of the winners will be disclosed later.”
Additionally, it stated, “The ‘2025 Countdown Show LIGHT NOW’, which was scheduled to follow the Acting Awards and take place in front of the Shinsegae Main Store in Myeongdong, has also been cancelled due to the government’s designation of a national mourning period.”
KBS was originally set to hold the ‘2024 KBS Acting Awards’ at KBS Hall in Yeouido at 7 PM on the 31st. However, this decision was made in light of the mourning atmosphere following the Jeju Air disaster.
On the morning of the 29th, at 9:05 AM, an accident occurred at Muan International Airport when Jeju Air flight 7C2216, arriving from Bangkok, Thailand, collided with the runway's outer wall during landing. The aircraft was burned to the point that, except for the tail section, no shape remained after the collision.
According to rescue authorities, including the Fire Department, 179 of the 181 passengers on board died, excluding 2 surviving crew members. The government has designated a week of national mourning until January 4th next year in relation to the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster.
