The group NewJeans has completed the recording of ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show’. Adore, which is in a contract dispute, stated, “The artist independently decided to appear and proceeded with it,” adding, “The company was not aware of the appearance in advance.”
During the broadcast of CBS ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show’ on the morning of the 24th, anchor Kim Hyun-jung announced the appearance of NewJeans on Christmas Day, the 25th, in her closing remarks.
Kim Hyun-jung said, “Tomorrow is a Christmas special. The first part will deliver live news as usual, and in the second part, we will invite five angels, five girls: Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. We will create a special segment filled with comfort, peace, stories, and music with them.” Notably, she mentioned the members' names instead of the team name ‘NewJeans’, drawing attention.
The segment featuring NewJeans on ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show’ was recorded. The ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show’ team posted on their official YouTube channel on the afternoon of the 24th, “Five angels have come to ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show! A 2024 Christmas special with Minji, Hani, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein,” along with a photo of NewJeans and anchor Kim Hyun-jung posing in front of a tree.
Additionally, they teased the broadcast content, stating, “From the five angels’ Christmas memories to Hani’s first live performance of her self-composed song, and Danielle’s live winter solo song! A scene of crying and laughing during the interview,” and requested, “Please watch on Wednesday, December 25th, at 8 AM.” The team name ‘NewJeans’ was also not mentioned in this post.
It has been confirmed that this schedule was independently conducted by NewJeans. An Adore representative stated to Maeil Business Star Today on the 24th, “(This broadcast appearance) was decided and conducted independently by the artist without discussion with the company, and the company was not aware of the appearance in advance.”
NewJeans is currently in a contract dispute with Adore. They held an emergency press conference on the afternoon of November 28th, declaring that they would terminate their exclusive contract with Adore as of midnight on the 29th. The members claimed that since they were terminating the contract due to Adore’s breach, they would not be liable for any penalties.
In response to NewJeans’ unilateral declaration of contract termination, Adore filed a lawsuit for confirmation of the validity of the exclusive contract at the Seoul Central District Court. Despite this, NewJeans has maintained their position that the contract has been terminated and has continued to carry out their schedule. Since the 14th, they have created a new SNS account named ‘Jeanzforfree’ and started communicating with fans.
