Jeon Hyun-moo sent a long reply only to announcer Hong Joo-yeon.
On the afternoon of the 22nd, KBS2's entertainment program ‘The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears’ (hereinafter ‘Sadangui’) featured bosses Lee Soon-sil, Shin Jong-cheol, and Eom Ji-in.
In this episode, Chef Shin Jong-cheol, who has 33 years of experience and commands over 150 employees at a buffet, appeared. He is known for creating the mango bingsu at S Hotel for the first time and stated, “The kitchen is filled with scary bosses who only yell, but I am actually emotional. I wanted to show that there is a chef like me.”
The first to appear was North Korean entrepreneur Lee Soon-sil. He said, “I prefer the taste of North Korea a lot. But to match the Korean palate, I need to learn a lot. That’s why I came all the way to Damyang, Jeollanam-do to learn how to make delicious kimchi.” At that moment, Master Kim Hyo-sook appeared and said, “We make fresh kimchi every day for our guests to enjoy,” presenting a feast of kimchi, cheonggukjang stew, and duck meat patties.
After tasting the duck meat patties, Lee Soon-sil exclaimed, “Wow, this is the taste! It’s light and savory~” and explained that he started a kimchi business because “people come to my cold noodle restaurant to eat cold noodles but end up eating only kimchi. Later, they started buying it by the kilogram.”
Soon-sil said, “Now that we’ve eaten, let’s go outside and learn,” and headed out, while Kim Hyo-sook said, “This is all kimchi ingredients. There’s one thing missing. Go over there and bring it,” pulling out an enormous-sized Mudeungsan watermelon. Kim Hyo-sook added, “I won a presidential award with this. I use the whole watermelon. If it’s over 20kg, it costs over a million won, and this one costs around 70-80 thousand won. This was even served at the royal table during the Joseon Dynasty,” sharing her unique tips and surprising the panelists.
She continued, “Add dried watermelon rind. It gives off a bit of a grassy smell, so add cheongyang pepper. Also, add green onion roots and roasted pollack. Finally, season with shrimp sauce and boil it to make the broth.” She blended the watermelon in a mixer to complete the watermelon kimchi broth, and Soon-sil’s team followed suit, filling the mixer with watermelon, cheongyang pepper, and garlic, while the staff exclaimed, “Isn’t that too much? Stop adding!” Eventually, the watermelon broth spilled out of the mixer, and Soon-sil complained, “Why is this mixer like this! Even the master’s mixer is weird!”
Eventually, the mixer broke down, and Soon-sil said, “I did what you told me, and it all turned out like this! What are you teaching me today! I’ve never been scolded by a master before,” blaming Master Kim Hyo-sook, leaving the panelists dumbfounded. After some twists and turns, they managed to make kimchi.
The second boss to appear was the new boss of the buffet, Chef Shin Jong-cheol. During his first schedule, while inspecting the breakfast buffet, he said, “Fill the dim sum. Strain it and redo it,” and “I’m tasting the food, changing it between 6 and 7,” meticulously checking the buffet food. He explained, “If breakfast is delicious, the hotel’s rating goes up. The first thing guests encounter at a buffet is coffee, and if the coffee is bad, they think all the food is bad,” detailing why he checks the food thoroughly. After tasting the food, he informed the group chat to improve the dishes, and the chefs appeared looking frightened.
As the weekly work report time approached at 9 AM, Shin Jong-cheol said, “Since I came, sales have increased by 26%, but it still seems insufficient. It’s a bit of bad news, but I’ve worked in all the luxury hotels from TOP 1 to TOP 10. Let’s prepare to be in the TOP 3 next year,” solidifying his determination. He then added, “Is there anyone who brought the report? Adjust the report a bit. That’s it for the weekly work, and we have over 100 lunch reservations today,” announcing the lunch preparations.
At 10:30 AM, during lunch preparation time, the staff cooked in an orderly manner, and as the opening time approached, Shin Jong-cheol conducted a final check. He said, “The tongs should all be at 5 o’clock. That one is at 4 o’clock. Manager Kim Jong-woo! Hurry up! Did you spread garlic or butter? There’s no garlic smell at all! If it’s a grill, you should grill some grapefruit too. Re-grill the shrimp!” shouting for them to redo the cooking.
Then, looking at the eel, he asked, “Will customers like the eel tail? The green onion should look appetizing! It should look good! Remember, if the food isn’t taken by the guests, it’s trash! We need to make food, not trash!” and ordered the grilled eel to be disposed of.
The third boss to appear was Eom Ji-in along with KBS's new announcers. That day, the announcers challenged to be the pre-MC for ‘Immortal Songs’, and Kim Jin-woong said, “I prepared carols, impersonations, trot, and hidden cards. Senior Hyun-moo told me not to overdo it,” revealing that he had contacted Jeon Hyun-moo. Other announcers also mentioned they had contacted Jeon Hyun-moo, but during a conversation with Joo-yeon, only Jeon Hyun-moo sent a long reply, leading Eom Ji-in to suspect, “Hyun-moo isn’t the type to reply that long?”
Kim Sook said, “I’ve never texted with Hyun-moo. We’ve been close for so long. He can be so sweet,” expressing her surprise, and was shocked to see Joo-yeon receiving a quick reply. Jeon Hyun-moo then stammered, “It’s not a quick reply, look! Joo-yeon is at 6 PM and Eun-hye is at 10 PM, right? 10 PM is busier than 6 PM...” Park Myung-soo pointed at Soon-sil, saying, “North Korean sister! Hurry and go match the blankets!” and Soon-sil chimed in, “There’s a blanket store in Dongdaemun! They even have twin blankets!” causing laughter.
After the meeting, Eom Ji-in visited Lee Chan-won’s waiting room and asked, “Who do you think will do the best?” Lee Chan-won replied, “You’ll do the best! Announcer Hong Joo-yeon! I’ve watched all the announcer episodes of ‘Sadangui’, and you did the best at the National Sports Festival review,” showing his true fan side.
As the recording time approached, the filming set was busy with final preparations, and the daily pre-MC took their seats. Announcer Hong Joo-yeon began announcing the pre-notice, but as she only read the script, the audience already looked bored, although she tried to lighten the mood with dad jokes.
Eventually, the existing pre-MC, Mr. Bae, was urgently brought in, and Announcer Hong Joo-yeon stepped down from the stage. Next, Announcer Lee Ye-won showcased her ballet skills to revive the atmosphere, and Kim Jin-woong began to speak at length, prompting a warning from Announcer Eom Ji-in to “stop with the comments.”
As a secret weapon, Announcer Eom Ji-in took the stage and passionately sang ‘The Pierrot Doesn’t Smile at Us’ to revive the atmosphere once again.
‘Sadangui’ can be seen every Sunday at 4:45 PM on KBS2.
