PD Yang Hyuk expressed his affection for the masters of ‘The Danttara’.
KBS2's entertainment show ‘The Danttara’, which started airing on the 3rd of last month, is a project to find all-round talents who can sing, dance, act, and entertain. It is a variety audition program presented by the original Danttara Park Jin-young in collaboration with KBS. This unprecedented all-rounder audition aims to discover and nurture stars with diverse talents in comedy, acting, singing, dancing, traditional music, trot, and more.
The masters of ‘The Danttara’ are PD Yang Hyuk, writer Choi Moon-kyung, and master Park Jin-young, who previously collaborated on ‘Golden Girls’, which featured the idol challenges of singers like In-soon Lee, Shin Hyo-bum, Park Mi-kyung, and Lee Eun-mi, all of whom are well over fifty years old. Actors Cha Tae-hyun and Kim Ha-neul, as well as Red Velvet's Wendy, are also participating as masters.
PD Yang Hyuk explained the master lineup, saying, “We looked for masters mainly divided into acting and singing, centered around Park Jin-young. Cha Tae-hyun is a super talented individual who excels in singing, dancing, and acting. He is also great at entertainment, so we offered him to join. Initially, he declined, but he contacted us again a week later, and that’s how he became part of the show. Kim Ha-neul is a new face who has never done entertainment before and is a great actress, so I wanted to work with her. She initially declined due to pressure, but I wrote her a letter to persuade her. Wendy has experience both as a group member and as a solo artist, and she is an excellent singer, which is why we invited her.”
He added, “The four masters have great chemistry because they are sincere with each other,” and explained, “Since the masters think of themselves as selecting their juniors, they don’t just judge; they genuinely care about the future of these participants. Master Park Jin-young also has deep affection for the participants. Although not everything can be shown due to broadcast time, he always gives heartfelt advice to those who are eliminated.”
Furthermore, PD Yang Hyuk mentioned, “Cha Tae-hyun, Wendy, and Kim Ha-neul said they would give an ‘F’, but they ended up giving a ‘T’ in their evaluations. They acknowledge what is good but are quite strict when it comes to evaluations.” He added, “Cha Tae-hyun has attended many auditions, even minor ones. He has a clear set of standards and is looking for new aspects. I thought he would have a warm fatherly image, but he has so much accumulated data that he tries to find aspects he hasn’t seen before. If a participant's color doesn’t come through, he evaluates them coldly. He checks how many ads are attached from ten minutes before the broadcast until the end.”
He continued, “Kim Ha-neul calls me all the time. She is almost like the representative of the participants’ agencies. She often says that this should be uploaded as a direct cam and analyzes the participants, always immersing herself in the program with genuine affection.”
He also mentioned, “Wendy’s videos of giving vocal lessons have become a hot topic. Just because a mathematician is good at math doesn’t mean they can teach it well. However, Wendy is not only a great singer but also teaches well. In fact, during the vocal lessons, Master Park Jin-young said he should step back so that Wendy could shine and the program's balance would improve, and Wendy showed that well,” expressing his gratitude towards the masters.
‘The Danttara’ airs every Sunday at 9:20 PM.
