‘What Do You Do When You Play?’ has opened the Seoul Music Festival with a flourish.

The MBC entertainment program ‘What Do You Do When You Play?’ (directed by Kim Jin-yong, Jang Woo-sung, Jang Hyo-jong, Wang Jong-seok, written by Choi Hye-jung) depicted the main event of the Seoul Music Festival on the afternoon of the 27th.

On this day’s broadcast, Yoo Jae-suk and Kim Hee-ae participated in the final rehearsal before the music festival filming. Kim Hee-ae confidently stated, “I can just trust Yoo Jae-suk,” as she practiced. Notably, Kim Hee-ae wore a purple two-piece outfit, perfectly recreating the 1980s, while Yoo Jae-suk donned a bob wig.

As the music festival began and Yoo Jae-suk and Kim Hee-ae took the stage, the audience applauded. Although Kim Hee-ae wore vintage makeup, she still exuded elegance.

The judges included musical music director Kim Moon-jung, Byun Jin-seob, Han Young-ae, film director Jang Hang-jun, and radio PD Nam Tae-jung.

The first performance was by Yoon Do-hyun, who prepared a stage for Song Golmae's ‘The One I Happened to Meet’. He organized the stage well with the house band and dance team, prompting Yoo Jae-suk to exclaim, “Isn’t it impressive from the start?” Kim Moon-jung also remarked, “It was so much fun to do the choreography,” watching with satisfaction. Ralral expressed nervousness, saying, “It’s not a competition, but a celebration performance.”

The second participant, Sola, sang Lee Sun-hee's ‘Beautiful River and Mountain’. Lee Yong-jin expressed, “I’m most looking forward to Sola,” showing anticipation for her performance. Sola captivated the entire audience with her trademark powerful vocals.

When asked how the stage was, Sola replied, “I was really nervous, and wow... I’m sorry,” unable to continue her words. Ha Ha then asked Sola if Yoon Do-hyun was her school professor, inquiring about his performance. Yoon Do-hyun denied the rumor, saying, “They said on the broadcast that I was Sola’s school professor, but I’ve never been a professor.”

Sola clarified, “We talked about this in the waiting room for a long time, and it turns out he wasn’t a professor. I’m sorry.” Yoon Do-hyun expressed his frustration, saying, “I got a call from my elders asking when I became a professor. I’ve never done that.”

The third performance was by Jung Sung-hwa, who presented Kim Sung-ho's ‘Kim Sung-ho's Reminiscence’. After watching his performance, Kim Hee-ae commented, “It was a stage that felt the depth of a musical actor.”

Next, Liz sang Lee Ji-yeon's ‘Wind, Stop’. Kim Hee-ae remarked, “It was decorated with a truly lovely voice,” adding, “Just watching made me happy. This song is quite difficult, but you handled it well,” unable to contain her admiration. Yoon Do-hyun stated, “In my opinion, Liz did the best. She recreated it well,” expressing his admiration in the waiting room.

The fifth participant, Woods, prepared Lee Seung-chul's ‘Last Concert’. After watching his performance, Yoo Jae-suk praised, “This song made countless girl fans cry back in the day, and Woods performed it.”

Jung Sung-hwa candidly said, “This is a place to present 80s songs, and Kim Moon-jung is sitting in the judge's seat. I was so nervous because that person has no blood or tears.”

Kim Moon-jung responded, “I practiced a musical with Jung Sung-hwa yesterday. He said he would take it easy. I pretended not to know and told him to do well tomorrow. It felt like a one or two-act drama, but there were some disappointing points. He didn’t give an ending. I’m curious about what comes next,” expressing her curiosity. Lee Yi-kyung asked, “Did Jung Sung-hwa bet his life on this Seoul Music Festival?” to which Jung Sung-hwa humorously replied, “I did, but since he’s sitting there, I’ve given up on my ambitions.”

Next, the relaxed Park Young-kyu performed Song Chang-sik's ‘We Are’. As the song ended, the audience cheered, calling his name.

The seventh performer, Ha Dong-kyun, sang Kim Jong-jin's ‘A Certain Someone's Dream’ with his unique atmospheric voice.

Following this, an interview with Park Young-kyu and Ha Dong-kyun took place. Joo Woo-jae remarked, “When Park Young-kyu was on stage, everyone on our production team had misty eyes,” stating, “He sang as if he was speaking, and it was so moving.” Park Young-kyu expressed, “I feel like I won’t get another chance. My heart is still racing,” feeling emotional. At that moment, someone in the audience shouted, “Grand Prize!” and Park Young-kyu shyly responded, “Is it me? No way.”

When Joo Woo-jae said, “You’re being too humble; many people were moved by Park Young-kyu’s voice,” Park Young-kyu smiled and said, “I didn’t live my life in vain. I’m glad I chose to be an actor!”

Ha Dong-kyun, who is aiming for the Friendship Award, showed an unexpected side, saying, “I’ve been working hard for friendship.” Byun Jin-seob praised, “It’s hard to judge. Everyone’s singing ability and stage manners are excellent.”

At this point, Park Young-kyu added, “I met Kim Hee-ae for the first time in 30 years today.” In fact, Park Young-kyu and Kim Hee-ae reunited after 36 years since filming the drama ‘I Will Forget Tomorrow’. Park Young-kyu shockingly confessed, “She was the first woman I loved in my life. Meeting such a great actress back then is why I’m still living,” leaving Yoo Jae-suk flustered.

Seeing this, Joo Woo-jae and Lee Yi-kyung quickly pulled him off the stage, calling it a dangerous statement, which brought laughter.

Afterward, Byun Jin-seob performed ‘To a Lady’ as a congratulatory performance, successfully concluding the first part.

MBC’s ‘What Do You Do When You Play?’ airs every Saturday at 6:30 PM.
