In ‘Parole Officer Lee Han-shin’, Go Soo dives into the gambling scene to punish Woo Hyun, who is involved in parole corruption.
In the fifth episode of the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Parole Officer Lee Han-shin’ (directed by Yoon Sang-ho, written by Park Chi-hyung, planned by CJ ENM, KT Studio Genie, produced by Kotap Media, hereafter referred to as ‘Lee Han-shin’), Lee Han-shin (played by Go Soo) is depicted uncovering corruption related to parole. His meticulous operation to punish the corrupt forces buying and selling parole positions intrigued viewers.
As a result, the ratings responded positively. According to Nielsen Korea, the fifth episode of ‘Lee Han-shin’ recorded a nationwide average of 5.1% and a peak of 6.1% among paid platform households, with an average of 4.7% and a peak of 5.8% in the metropolitan area, achieving first place in the same time slot including cable channels. Additionally, it ranked first for two consecutive weeks in the target demographic of 2049 viewers across all channels, including terrestrial broadcasts, proving the charm of ‘Lee Han-shin’.
In the previous episode, Lee Han-shin was attacked, bleeding and collapsing. As soon as he was discharged, he went to confront Ji Dong-man (played by Song Young-chang), who had orchestrated the attack. Ji Dong-man, knowing that Lee Han-shin's weakness was his senior prison guard Cheon Soo-beom (played by Jo Seung-yeon), threatened him. However, Lee Han-shin stood firm and declared, “I will see this through to the end.”
Meanwhile, detective Ahn Seo-yoon (played by Kwon Yu-ri) received a report of a suicide attempt and headed to Yonggeol Industries. The person attempting suicide was Yang Bok-kyu (played by Park No-sik), who had been released on employment conditional parole and had gotten a job at Yonggeol Industries. He was wrongfully accused of stealing luxury watches from the company’s representative Yong Jin-sang (played by Woo Hyun) due to the stigma of being an ex-convict, leading him to throw himself from a crane in despair.
It turned out that Yang Bok-kyu had a connection to Lee Han-shin. During Lee Han-shin's time as a prison guard, Yang Bok-kyu was an inmate who had the will to live a new life for the sake of his son. Consequently, Lee Han-shin personally investigated Yang Bok-kyu's case. During the investigation, Lee Han-shin discovered that the company representative Yong Jin-sang was a gambler based on his words and actions, and he devised a gambling scheme to lure Yong Jin-sang with the help of Choi Hwa-ran (played by Baek Ji-won).
On the other hand, Ahn Seo-yoon was continuously pursuing Choi Jeong-hak (played by Nam Min-woo), who was closely related to the Ji Myung-seob case. Ahn Seo-yoon confirmed that Choi Jeong-hak's phone was on and rushed to the location. However, it turned out to be a trap set by the Ojeong Group to capture Choi Jeong-hak. Ultimately, Choi Jeong-hak was knocked out by the Ojeong Group's secretary Han Eung-jun (played by Kim Young-woong) and taken away.
Upon hearing that a gambling game was set up, Yong Jin-sang called Professor Kim Nae-gyeong (played by Kim Hye-hwa), one of the parole officers, to demand money to secure cash. Kim Nae-gyeong and Yong Jin-sang were pocketing money by selling employment conditional parole positions at Yonggeol Industries, a correctional companion company, and it was revealed that they had framed Yang Bok-kyu to meet the quota. Realizing this, Lee Han-shin began to formulate a plan to uncover the truth.
As Yong Jin-sang arrived at the gambling venue, the operation commenced, but he was not an easy opponent. As a professional gambler, he noticed the players sent into the game and expelled them, neutralizing the operation. With the plan disrupted by unexpected variables, everyone was thrown into confusion, and Lee Han-shin disguised himself as a gambler and jumped into the gambling scene.
Once again, Lee Han-shin took sudden action. He surprised everyone by jumping into the gambling scene against Yong Jin-sang, who had noticed the players' sleight of hand. However, viewers who have been watching Lee Han-shin until now are no longer questioning “Why is he doing this?” but are filled with anticipation of “What kind of catharsis will he provide this time?” What could be Lee Han-shin's thoughts as he enters the gambling scene against Yong Jin-sang? Will his plan succeed in revealing Yong Jin-sang's corruption and punishing his evil deeds? The sixth episode of ‘Lee Han-shin’ will reveal the answers.
The sixth episode of the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Parole Officer Lee Han-shin’ will air on the 3rd at 8:50 PM.
