Seo Jang-hoon recalled his past neck injury.
On the afternoon of the 30th, the 461st episode of JTBC's entertainment program ‘Knowing Bros’ (hereinafter ‘Ahyung’) featured guests Jaejae, Seunghun, and Gabi.
During the broadcast, when asked by Kang Ho-dong, “How did you meet?”, Jaejae replied, “I met Gabi on ‘Muntuk’ and became friends, and at that time, Seunghun was in the military. As soon as he finished his service, he appeared on Gabi's channel.” Gabi added, “Honestly, I thought he wouldn’t come out? He has a bit of a hidden style.”
It turned out that this was Seunghun's second appearance on a show, and he was considered a true strong line. Gabi said, “It was a bit too much for just the two of us, so Seunghun came to mind at that time,” and Jaejae mentioned, “We had our first stage at the Goesan Pepper Festival. Since we didn’t have any songs, we performed Secret’s ‘Madonna’ and Orange Caramel’s ‘Catallena’.”
Afterward, a high-pitched battle between Kim Young-chul and Seunghun unfolded, and Seo Jang-hoon commented, “Seunghun uses falsetto well. Young-chul produces good sounds.” Kang Ho-dong remarked, “The lineup is amazing. The lyricist is Kim Ina. She wrote the song and even gave you homework. The music video’s main character is Han Ga-in,” to which Jaejae replied, “Sister Han Ga-in made a special appearance,” revealing that she was not the main character, which brought laughter.
Jaejae also said, “She writes lyrics really quickly. She gave us homework.” When asked by the members if the results were good, Jaejae proudly stated, “Our ranking is good. YouTube is still number one with ‘Ingeubdong’.”
After watching the JaeSseubi stage, Kim Hee-chul said, “I’m sorry, but it’s so different from the stage we imagined. I thought Gabi’s dance would be really intense... I thought the second part would also be Gabi,” expressing his admiration, while Shindong added, “I was surprised that Gabi’s voice is so thin.” Gabi lamented, “It’s thin in a way that doesn’t suit me. I like powerful vocals, but my voice isn’t like that,” and Jaejae added, “That’s why there are comments like that for Gabi. ‘Tinkerbell trapped in Beyoncé’s body’,” to which Gabi exclaimed, “What kind of curse is that!”
Kim Hee-chul comforted her, saying, “Isn’t it better than being Beyoncé trapped in Tinkerbell’s body?” which brought laughter.
Lee Soo-geun asked, “Jaejae wrote ‘G-Dragon’ in the Chugumi section,” and Jaejae replied, “He’s the leader, raps well, and is rich in copyrights. But I achieved my goal! 4%! I’m so curious,” expressing his honest feelings. He added, “Rapper seniors write their own lyrics, so there’s authenticity and they earn royalties,” showing his sincerity about copyright fees.
Next, Gabi said, “I’m Beyoncé. I’m Beyoncé no matter what,” naming Beyoncé as her role model. She continued, “I decided to take on the intro. I’ll open the song with a beautiful tone. Honestly, there’s a girl living inside me! I may look like this on the outside, but inside, there’s a girl! I’m a dancer, but I was worried that singing would seem too showy and ridiculous, but Taeyeon gave me some advice. Rather than advice on singing techniques, she said, ‘You seem to be awkward singing right now,’ and I realized that I looked that way when I thought about it again.”
Lee Soo-geun asked, “Seunghun has two personas, right? Different in front and behind?” Seunghun replied, “I have a 34-year-old persona. It’s really hard to balance school and activities. But I filmed content for ‘Jae-su Train’ and it became so famous that it felt too wasteful to quit,” he revealed. Jaejae also acknowledged, “I really liked it from that time, and celebrities liked it a lot too.”
Shindong said, “Taeyeon doesn’t follow anyone on SNS, right? But one day, she became number one. So there was a commotion among fans, but the person Taeyeon followed wasn’t Seunghun, but Seunghun’s fan account!” which amazed the members. Lee Soo-geun commented, “There are so many surprising things in the world,” causing everyone to burst into laughter.
Then Lee Soo-geun said, “Next is Gabi! Queen mindset.” Gabi explained, “Even if there are things I really don’t want to do and find annoying, I think, ‘A queen does it,’” talking about her self-identity. Kang Ho-dong praised her, saying, “Gabi has created all the choreography for idols in Korea,” and Gabi smiled happily, saying, “I did that dance part for aespa. I think I get along well with aespa friends.”
Afterward, Shindong said, “You can express a moment or a piece of writing you want to compliment on a sketchbook,” giving the members homework. Jaejae shared, “I remember the first interview for ‘Doctor Strange 2’. I thought, ‘Can I do an English interview?’ but Gabi helped me with my English attitude. Since then, I’ve been doing English interviews, and recently I even went to an interview for ‘Wicked’. I got to meet Ariana Grande, and I think if I hadn’t started doing English interviews, I wouldn’t have met Ariana Grande, so I compliment my past self for that,” he announced.
He continued, “I still can’t understand everything in English interviews. I prepare a structure in advance, get it translated, and memorize it all. When interviewing global stars, they give you very little time. When interpreting, the questions end while you’re still asking,” revealing his strenuous efforts.
Kim Young-chul shared, “I’m hosting a radio show, and after my father passed away, my mother felt very lonely, so there’s a listener who decided to call her every day. I didn’t call every day. It was so nice that I promised the listeners I would call my mom every day. One day in 2018, after the broadcast, I started calling my mom every day. By calling every day, I’ve heard my mom’s old stories and first love stories. I’ve been talking to her every day for about seven years now, and I feel really good about myself. When I say I love my mom, she says she loves me too,” creating a warm atmosphere.
Seo Jang-hoon said, “I generally don’t like to compliment myself. This is the only thing that comes to mind. Still, the hardest moment in my life! I think I endured well thanks to the neck brace. I was teased a lot for it. Neck Jang-hoon, neck scarf lizard, etc... But many people still don’t know the reason. When I was in college, I had a serious injury to my neck. I lay in the hospital for about 50 days, and I experienced paralysis, which was very difficult, but I got better and ran without a neck brace. After about 5 or 6 years of joining the pros, when I was 30 years old, I got injured again, and it was scary. It was frightening to feel that my limbs weren’t working as I wanted. The doctor said it would be difficult to run. He told me to stop because he didn’t know what would happen if my neck bent backward. I had a lot of worries at that time. I was only 31 years old,” he said.
He continued, “From that time, I decided to make a brace no matter what, so I made it with my trainer. I eventually found a way, which was to tie it around my neck. If you think about running with your fingers on your neck, it feels very frustrating. Since it was tied, I couldn’t look up well. Even though my range of motion was limited, I thought I could still run, and I ran for another 10 years after that. Although I was scared at that time, I was able to run until I was 40 because of the neck brace, and I still keep it at home. So I compliment my decision back then,” he mentioned, recalling the past and receiving applause from the members.
After all the presentations, Kang Ho-dong, who received 7 votes for ‘like’, won and received a plush whale doll as a gift.
‘Knowing Bros’ airs every Saturday at 8:50 PM on JTBC.
