The group Idol revealed the reason for changing their group name.
Idol (Miyun, Minnie, Soyeon, Wugi, Shuhua) held a press conference to celebrate the release of their mini album 'We are' on the afternoon of the 19th at Chosun Palace, Gangnam, Seoul.
Wugi mentioned that they changed their group name from '(G)I-DLE' to 'Idol' on May 2nd, marking their 7th anniversary, saying, "We all re-signed our contracts, and since it's a new start, we wanted to give a feeling of rebranding from the name, so we decided to change it to Idol."
In response, Miyun added, "Honestly, I was puzzled by the word 'Girl (G)' in parentheses since our debut. We had talked among ourselves that once we became more well-known, we would remove that part, and now it really feels like we've found our name. I'm so happy and relieved to be able to start again with the name Idol."
Meanwhile, 'We are' is the first album released after all the members of Idol re-signed with their agency, Cube Entertainment. Additionally, it draws attention as it is the first new release after changing their group name from '(G)I-DLE' to 'Idol' on their 7th anniversary. It will be released at 6 PM today.
