The group Ailet has been nominated for the 'Billboard Music Awards' just 8 months after their debut.
According to the finalist list announced on the 25th (local time) for the '2024 Billboard Music Awards' (hereafter 'BBMAs'), Ailet's title track 'Magnetic' from their first mini album is included in the nominees for the 'Top Global K-pop Song' category.
The 'BBMAs' is considered one of the four major American music awards alongside the 'Grammy Awards', 'American Music Awards', and 'MTV VMA'. Nominees are selected based on Billboard chart performance over the past 12 months, including album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring, and social engagement.
Debuting in March this year, Ailet has made K-pop history on the Billboard charts. Their song 'Magnetic' became the first debut song by a K-pop group to enter the main song chart 'Hot 100' (as of April 20) and has consistently remained on the global song chart for 34 consecutive weeks, continuing to receive love.
Additionally, the mini album 'SUPER REAL ME', which includes this song, achieved the remarkable feat of entering the main album chart 'Billboard 200' (as of May 11). Ailet has set a milestone by placing both their debut album and debut song on Billboard's two main charts, firmly establishing themselves as 'super rookies'.
In less than a year since their debut, Ailet's presence at major international music awards is noteworthy. They were previously nominated for the 'Best Asia Act' category at the '2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMA)'. 'Magnetic' has not only entered the Billboard 'Hot 100' but also made its debut on the UK 'Official Singles Top 100' (as of April 5), becoming the first debut song by a K-pop group to chart there for three consecutive weeks.
Furthermore, Ailet has won the Rookie of the Year trophy at both the 'Japan Record Awards' and the '2024 MAMA AWARDS'. Notably, it has been 13 years since a K-pop girl group received the Rookie of the Year award at the 'Japan Record Awards'.
