Shin Eun-kyung expressed her feelings about actively working in both Korea and Japan.
On the 20th, a press conference for the competition entry 'Travel and Days' at the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) was held at the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu. Director Miyake Sho and actors Shin Eun-kyung and Takada Mansaku attended.
Shin Eun-kyung said, "I am always very grateful for the opportunities that have come to me while working between Korea and Japan. I think I need to work harder. I am trying to think about how I can perform more sincerely and to have a more humble mindset."
She continued, "There are many collaborations between Korea and Japan, and Korean and Japanese actors are actively working. In the Netflix film 'Good News,' which was invited to the Busan Film Festival, Japanese actors are appearing in a Korean production. Such works are increasing."
Shin Eun-kyung also mentioned, "When I was in middle school, I watched Japanese films and said I wanted to work together someday. I was attracted to Japanese works that evoke a different charm from Korean films. I wanted to be able to work freely on projects someday, and now that era has come. As someone who works in Korean cinema and as a fan of Japanese films, I am happy to see this situation. I hope to continue to advance and be able to work on many more projects in the future."
She added, "In that regard, 'Travel and Days' is a work that can go a little further."
Shin Eun-kyung debuted in 2003 with the MBC drama 'Dae Jang Geum.' She has made her presence known in films such as 'Miss Granny' and 'Sunny.' After the 2018 film 'The Princess and the Matchmaker,' she expanded her activities to Japan. In 2019, she won the Best Actress award at the Japanese Academy Awards and the Takasaki Film Festival for her role in the Japanese film 'The Journalist,' becoming the first Korean to do so.
Based on the manga by Tsuge Yoshiharu, 'Travel and Days' depicts the process of the protagonist, I (played by Shin Eun-kyung), meeting the innkeeper Benzo (played by Tsutsumi Shinichi) in a snowy landscape during her travels and undergoing a transformation.
This is the latest work by director Miyake Sho, who has been gaining attention in both Japan and the international film community, having been invited to the Berlin International Film Festival with films such as 'Your Bird Can Sing,' 'If You Look Into Your Eyes,' and 'All of Dawn.' It won the Golden Leopard award in the international competition section at the 78th Locarno Film Festival.
The 30th Busan Film Festival will meet audiences with a total of 328 films from 64 countries, including 87 films in the Community BIFF section and 32 films in the Neighborhood BIFF section. It will be held until the 26th around the Busan Cinema Center.
