The 'Conjuring' series, which has lasted for 12 years, is coming to its finale.
The film 'The Conjuring: The Last Rites' (directed by Michael Chaves) is inspired by the 'Smurl Family' case that shocked the United States in 1986 and contains the finale of the series that has continued for 12 years.
Since its start in 2013, the 'Conjuring' series has gained immense popularity, recording a box office revenue of $2.3 billion (approximately 3.2142 trillion won) worldwide.
In 1986, the Smurl family in Pennsylvania claimed that an evil presence had entered their home. Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) and Ed Warren (Patrick Wilson), supernatural phenomenon experts who have been rescuing those suffering from mysterious events for a long time, also find themselves at the Smurl family's home.
The Warren couple encounters the most dangerous and powerful evil spirit they have ever faced, which they realize is connected to their past. Their daughter Judy Warren (Mia Tomlinson) also becomes endangered, and the Warren couple struggles once again to protect their faith and family.
This work seems to be a decent gift for those who have followed the 'Conjuring' series. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, who have led the series for a long time, once again portray the Warren couple, providing an immersive experience. As audiences resonate with the journey of these two actors, the enjoyment of this work will be amplified.
Mia Tomlinson, who appears as the Warren couple's daughter in this film, also contributes to the work with her stable acting skills. Additionally, the tension-filled atmosphere is completed with 15,500 liters of fake blood, 13 life-sized mirrors, and a set that perfectly captures the 1980s vibe.
James Wan, who created the 'Conjuring Universe,' participated in the overall production and screenplay, adding significance to the film. While the horror presented alongside supernatural phenomena is terrifying, it also leaves a deep resonance with themes of family love. It is neither the strongest evil spirit nor the most terrifying story. Despite the predictable horror, a meaningful finale was created with respect and affection for the Warren couple, who have maintained this series.
Released on September 3. Rated for ages 15 and up. Running time: 135 minutes.
