Actress Ra Mi-ran (50) has returned as a superpowered being. She has transformed into a fairy in 'High Five'.
The movie 'High Five' is a comic action drama that depicts the story of five individuals who accidentally gain different superpowers through organ transplants and encounter those who seek their abilities. It is the latest work by director Kang Hyoung-cheol, known for 'Speed Scandal', 'Sunny', 'Tazza: The High Rollers', and 'Swing Kids'.
Ra Mi-ran plays the role of a fresh manager fairy who showcases her stunning looks (?) and fiery oral action after a kidney transplant. Lee Jae-in plays the taekwondo girl Wan-seo, who gains superhuman strength after receiving a heart transplant, while Ahn Jae-hong portrays Ji-seong, who possesses the power of strong winds after receiving a lung transplant. Hee-won takes on the role of the work team leader Yak-seon, who gains the ability to cure all diseases after a liver transplant. Park Jin-young plays Young-chun, the leader of a new religious group who gains youth after receiving a pancreas transplant, and Oh Jung-se plays Jong-min, a taekwondo instructor who will do anything for his daughter Wan-seo.
Ra Mi-ran, who usually doesn't watch superhero movies, chose the superpowered hero 'High Five'. She said, "I don't wear a full-body suit, so I'm not really in the superhero realm. I liked that I was close to being an ordinary person, almost grounded. So I thought it would be fun."
She also expressed her enjoyment of the Miss role, saying, "I felt like the director saw another side of me. I'm grateful. After getting married and having kids, when would I get to play a Miss role again? I was really excited. This might be the last time in my life. I wore circle lenses and did everything I could to look pretty. I styled my hair to match as well."
She added, "My superpower isn't something you can see directly; I tell people that my superpower is becoming prettier when promoting the film. Everyone has abilities they can do alone, but I don't. If there's a sequel and I get to do action, I'll work hard as a fresh girl."
The car chase scene where the protagonists of 'High Five' ride a yogurt mobile cart is one of the highlights.
Ra Mi-ran said, "We had to go a bit faster than the original cart speed. But going down the hill was thrilling. The screams were fun too," she laughed.
Ra Mi-ran, who has recently been active as a solo lead in films like 'Honest Candidate', expressed her satisfaction with the team movie 'High Five'.
She said, "It was nice to have someone to rely on. Jae-in did all the hard work. She handled everything smoothly, so I just had to be there. The director is also a praise machine. He kept saying it was good and pretty. At first, it was a bit embarrassing, but later we cheered each other on, and the atmosphere on set was great."
She continued, "I mostly talked, while Ahn Jae-hong didn't say much, and I couldn't tell what Kim Hee-won was thinking. Jae-in has so much energy, always going to action school and running a lot, so she would doze off. So when it was time to shoot, she would wake up. I think I was the only one talking."
Ra Mi-ran reunited with Ahn Jae-hong, with whom she shared a hat in the drama 'Reply 1988', in 'High Five'.
She described Ahn Jae-hong as "a remarkable talent and charm. He makes people feel comfortable and entertained. Even when he’s just sitting still, it’s funny. Kim Hee-won oppa just sits there looking grumpy, but then he says something that’s hilarious. It seems like they only picked people like that," and added, "Ahn Jae-hong has grown so much that he needs to be married off. People keep saying we have hat chemistry, but I'm single in the film. I think it wouldn't be good for me to look like a mom, so I'm asking them to forget about the hat chemistry."
'High Five' was delayed indefinitely due to the drug scandal involving one of its lead actors, Yoo Ah-in, but it finally premiered after four years.
Ra Mi-ran cautiously said, "Actors continue to work, so we didn't realize how much time had passed. It must have been harder for the director and producers than for us. The director lost a lot of weight."
Regarding Yoo Ah-in, she said, "During filming, we really came together as one. He was great on set, and we enjoyed filming. He plays the hip role in the film, and he came out looking hip. It's a pity we couldn't work together, but he has to face the consequences. He must feel bad, but I'm just grateful that we can finally release the film."
She added, for viewers who might feel uncomfortable with Yoo Ah-in's screen time, "As the director said, there's nothing we can do for those who feel uncomfortable. But the movie moves quickly enough that if you don't think about that, you might enjoy it. I hope you can just watch it as a fun movie."
Finally, Ra Mi-ran said about 'High Five', "It seems like the director's humor is embedded in every scene. In the scene where Jae-in cries because she has no friends, I felt like I was going to cry too, but Oh Jung-se made it so that the tears went away. There are humor codes everywhere, and I really enjoyed picking them up," she smiled.
