Hollywood star Morgan Freeman paid tribute to his colleague Gene Hackman.
On the 2nd (local time), a moment of remembrance for filmmakers was held at the 97th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, USA.
Morgan Freeman took the stage and mentioned Gene Hackman, saying, "We worked together on two films. Like everyone who has worked with him, I learned that he was a generous actor and a talented person. He won the Oscar twice. But more importantly, he captured the hearts of movie lovers around the world."
He continued, "Gene always said he didn't think about his legacy. He just hoped people would remember him as someone who tried to do good. Gene, you will be remembered that way."
Gene Hackman and his pianist wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on the 26th of last month. It was reported that the couple was in a significantly advanced state of decomposition at the time of discovery. The police are investigating the cause of death.
Gene Hackman was a talented actor who appeared in over 100 films. He starred in "Bonnie and Clyde," "No Way Out," "Enemy of the State," and the "Superman" series.
He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Detective Popeye Doyle in the drug crime film "The French Connection" (1971). He also won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the Western "Unforgiven" (1992), alongside Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman.
