Hyun Bin shared his thoughts on playing Ahn Jung-geun in ‘Harbin’.
On the afternoon of the 18th, a screening and press conference for the film ‘Harbin’ was held at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul. Director Woo Min-ho and actors Hyun Bin, Jo Woo-jin, Jeon Yeo-bin, Park Hoon, Yoo Jae-myung, and Lee Dong-wook attended.
Hyun Bin said, “When the director first offered me the role, I initially rejected it because Ahn Jung-geun is an incredibly significant figure in our country. I thought it was a character I couldn’t handle, but the director kept giving me love calls, and I don’t know what aspect of me he saw that made him want to cast me.”
He continued, “As I revisited the script, I thought about how many actors have the opportunity to portray such a great character and how rare this chance is. I felt it was a tremendous opportunity and an honor, and I expressed my gratitude to the director afterward.”
Regarding the differences between his portrayal of Ahn Jung-geun and that in the film ‘Hero’, Hyun Bin said, “It’s different from Jung Sung-hwa’s portrayal. The Ahn Jung-geun we want to express in our film is different from the one depicted in ‘Hero’. While the film includes the image of Ahn Jung-geun as an independence fighter, it also aims to show the pain, suffering, and sadness that come from human relationships. It’s hard to compare.”
‘Harbin’ depicts the intense pursuit and suspicion between those heading to Harbin for a single purpose and those chasing them in 1909. It will be released on the 24th.
