(Following [Interview①]) In this work, Shin Ye-eun showcased a deep friendship and woman-centric relationship with Kim Da-mi, and she caught attention by saying, "She is really a wonderful person."
“I talked a lot with Da-mi unnie. She is not impatient, calm, and someone who checks herself well. I thought it was cool how she checks her state and makes choices at the moment of decision. Even when she feels greedy, she does things when she is prepared and confident, which was shocking to me. When I meet people, I tell them, ‘Da-mi unnie is really a wonderful person.’”
The similarity in their personalities was one of the reasons why the filming was comfortable. She said, “When we met, we had a similar vibe. We each know the boundaries we should keep. I feel comfortable when I’m with her. Even when acting, when I look into Da-mi unnie's eyes, I felt, ‘People can communicate through their eyes.’ There was a scene where I had to cry, and if I couldn’t, I asked her to call me ‘Jong-hee.’ That made me tear up, realizing that the time we spent together was well spent.”
What were the similarities between the extroverted Shin Ye-eun and the introverted Kim Da-mi? Shin Ye-eun explained, “I also like being alone, and although I seem talkative, I’m not. I am indeed bright and energetic, but I’m not an extroverted person. The filming set is a workplace, so I pour all my energy into it and recharge at home. Unnie understands that about me, which makes it comfortable.”
She added, “Actually, at the ‘Busan International Film Festival,’ the waiting room was crowded, so I took headache medicine and stayed in a corner, but when I stood on the red carpet, I felt excited. It felt like a festival with the three elements of theater: actors, audience, and stage, and I was thrilled and happy. So I wondered if I really am an introvert,” which brought laughter.
At the ‘Busan International Film Festival,’ she drew attention with a cute battle against the master director Guillermo del Toro. When Shin Ye-eun was caught on the live broadcast camera during the opening ceremony, she showcased her cuteness with hand hearts and winks, and Guillermo del Toro, who was shown as the next participant, also joined in the cuteness. He said, “I’m sorry if I put any pressure on you,” and smiled.
Shin Ye-eun also shared her chemistry with the actors she worked with in ‘Tangled.’ She expressed her respect, saying, “Senior Park Ji-hwan is an incredible artist. He told me, ‘Ye-eun, let’s just have fun,’ and taught me about the true essence of acting for two hours. He also gifted me many books.”
Regarding Rowoon, she said, “He exudes tremendous energy. We filmed outdoors where sunlight couldn’t be blocked, and he kept laughing and joking, and I wondered where that energy came from. He was so excited and happy that he couldn’t sleep while preparing for ‘Tangled.’ His attitude towards the work was impressive.”
In particular, the episode with Park Seo-ham was memorable. She said, “We are from the same agency, but we hadn’t met before the project. While doing a GV together, I could hear someone else’s heartbeat for the first time. I could hear the ‘thump thump’ sound next to me. I thought, how nervous and eager to do well must he be for his heart to race like that,” and mentioned their passion, saying, “They really seem to love the work.”
Earlier, Shin Ye-eun appeared on a variety show after her 2020 JTBC drama ‘The Number of Cases Where Friends Become Lovers’ recorded a low viewership rating of 1%, and she shed tears, saying, “I think it’s all my fault. I don’t mind if I suffer alone, but since everyone is getting this result, I wonder if it’s because of me, which makes it hard.”
She said, “At that time, I didn’t have peace of mind. I felt that I wasn’t able to deliver as much as I expected, so I had a lot of worries and cried. It was a time when I needed a break,” adding, “Now that it’s passed, I have gained a lot of peace and have become grateful for what I have. As an actor, I have roles I need to fulfill, so results are important. But I want to focus more on the process. What remains after the work is ultimately the appearance on set, not the viewership ratings. I’ve been thinking more about what kind of actor I want to be and how I want to grow in my acting.”
She continued, “I think my worries will continue to change in the future, but for now, if I have any desires, I hope there are many people waiting for my work. I hope to become an actor who can meet those expectations. Looking further ahead, I hope to move forward in a healthy way, both physically and mentally. The profession of an actor has a huge impact on my life. If the life of an actor is not healthy, it affects me as a person as well. I think a lot about this.”
Shin Ye-eun will soon begin filming her next project. She is set to collaborate with Lee Jae-wook in the Genie TV original drama ‘Waiting Doctor (tentative title),’ which is scheduled to be released in 2026.
She said, “It’s a script that feels a bit more everyday, full of human warmth, with both tears and laughter. During the script reading, I found it so funny that I felt it would go well,” and asked for anticipation.
