Fashion magazine W Korea has apologized for the controversy surrounding a recent breast cancer-related event.
On the 19th, W Korea released an official statement saying, “‘Love Your W,’ a breast cancer awareness campaign, started in 2006 and has been working to raise awareness about the importance of early breast cancer screening for 20 years.” They added, “There were criticisms regarding the composition and execution of the event held on October 15, and we take this matter seriously.”
They continued, “Above all, we sincerely apologize for not considering the perspectives of breast cancer patients and their families, which caused discomfort and hurt.”
Additionally, they stated, “We feel regretful thinking about the many who participated with good intentions and shared our campaign's purpose, who must have experienced discomfort due to the controversy. We are reflecting on our shortcomings while considering the feelings of everyone who was hurt by this event.”
W Korea promised to closely review the entire process of the event, stating, “Over the years, the core of this campaign has been to raise awareness about the importance of early breast cancer detection and to support low-income patients with surgical treatment costs, with the support of those who have shown warm interest in these activities. We will continue to examine the areas where we fall short based on various criticisms and feedback to ensure that their heartfelt intentions do not lose their shine.”
Previously, W Korea held the 20th Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign ‘Love Your W 2025’ at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno, Seoul on the 15th.
The event was attended by top stars including actress Lee Young-ae, BTS members RM, J-Hope, V, IVE's An Yujin, Rei, Jang Wonyoung, and aespa. However, the event faced public criticism due to its inappropriate suggestive performances and extravagant drinking party, which were highlighted on social media, contrasting with the campaign's purpose of raising breast cancer awareness.
