It has been one year since the passing of the late Kwon Seong-deok, a 'veteran actor.'
Kwon Seong-deok passed away on October 13 last year after battling esophageal cancer. He was 84 years old.
Born in 1941, he made his debut on the theater stage and appeared in productions such as ‘Dong Juang’, ‘The Sand Station’, ‘If I Could Love Just Once More’, ‘Companionship’, ‘Deep-rooted Tree’, and ‘Hamlet’.
In 1972, he joined the National Theater Company and worked as a member for over 20 years, serving as the head of the National Theater Company from 1994 to 1995.
He appeared in over 180 plays and received several awards, including two Dong-A Theater Awards, the Korean Theater Arts Award, and the Lee Hae-rang Theater Award.
In particular, he gained attention for his resemblance to former President Syngman Rhee in dramas such as ‘Era of the Outlaws’, ‘Era of Heroes’, and ‘Seoul 1945’.
In 2016, he left the stage after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer while preparing for the play ‘Hamlet’, but returned in 2018 with the play ‘Romulus the Great’ to showcase his resilience.
