Japan's top actress Ryoko Yonekura has come under scrutiny for drug use allegations.
On the 11th (local time), Japan's Weekly Bunshun reported that the Kanto Shinetsu Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare is investigating Yonekura for violations of the Drug Control Law.
According to the media, the Drug Control Department received a tip-off in June that Yonekura had used drugs and has been conducting an investigation since then. In August, they raided Yonekura's mansion in Tokyo and secured suspected drug substances. Additionally, the investigative authorities have been tracking Yonekura's activities for about four months since receiving the tip-off.
The media reported, "After the raid, Yonekura left for London and canceled some drama and advertisement schedules upon her return. Yonekura is expected to be investigated by the relevant authorities after her return."
Recently, Yonekura abruptly canceled all scheduled events. While some have mentioned health reasons, there are analyses suggesting that this may be due to the ongoing investigation following the drug reports.
Previously, Yonekura revealed in 2019 that she was battling cerebrospinal fluid reduction syndrome, and in 2022, she withdrew from the musical 'Chicago' due to acute back pain and sacroiliac joint disorder. Although it was reported that she was recovering after surgery, it is said that her condition is not as good as before.
Born in 1975, Yonekura gained a large domestic fanbase through the TV Asahi drama 'Doctor X: Surgeon Michiko Daimon' in 2012. This series concluded last year with 'Doctor X FINAL: The Movie.'
Next year, she is set to release the Amazon Prime movie 'Angel Flight THE MOVIE.' Amidst this, there are speculations that if she is charged with drug allegations, it could lead to the suspension of the movie's release and significant penalties.
