Broadcaster Lee Sang-byeok (78) revealed his past family history along with stories about his 101-year-old mother.
On the 20th, during the broadcast of MBN's 'Sokpuri Show Dongchimi', the topic of discussion was 'Do You Know the Life of K-Daughters?', where Lee Sang-byeok started by saying, "Sometimes I wanted to be the youngest. I didn't want to be in the middle."
He stated, "As the eldest son, I have a lifelong infinite responsibility. Not to mention the family's big and small matters, I lived as if everything was my responsibility," and added, "I have never told my younger siblings that it was hard for me. So today, I want to share a bit."
Lee Sang-byeok surprised everyone by saying, "My mother is still alive, has nine children, and is 101 years old."
He continued, "My mother is still in good health. She enjoys a glass of beer and has a good sense of humor," and mentioned, "When family members visit her in the hospital, they always say I'm the first one she looks for. Since my hometown is in the North, there are no relatives, so she relies on me more."
He reminisced, "I can only imagine how hard it must have been for my father to raise seven children. I think my mother knows that there will come a time when I have to take over from my father. That's why the eldest son has always been the priority."
He also shared, "Although there were nine siblings, there are now seven," and explained, "My hometown is Hwanghae-do, and when we came down from the North, my grandparents left the younger sibling behind to take care of them, which became a farewell. In fact, there was an older brother who lived until he was two years old and then passed away early. That's how I became the eldest son."
Lee Sang-byeok was born in Ongjin-gun, Hwanghae-do, and graduated from Hongik University with a degree in Industrial Design. He gained great popularity by hosting shows like 'Morning Yard' and 'TV Carries Love.'
He has a daughter, Lee Ji-yeon, who is a broadcaster and former KBS announcer.
