Actor Lee Sung-min opened up about his feelings towards director Park Chan-wook, with whom he collaborated for the first time in 'There’s Nothing You Can Do.'
On the 20th, a video titled 'The God of Acting is an Excuse' was uploaded on the ‘Tteun Tteun’ channel, featuring the lead actors of the film 'There’s Nothing You Can Do,' Lee Byung-hun, Lee Sung-min, and Yom Hye-ran.
On that day, the actors discussed the detailed and unique style of Park Chan-wook. Lee Byung-hun, who has worked with director Park the most among the cast, said, "I’ve seen him give direction like, 'Can you make tears come out of only the right eye?' for the sake of detailed acting," which caught attention.
Yom Hye-ran also mentioned, "Director Park is very detailed. He would say things like, 'It would be good if you could deliver that line while breathing fast after lying down and smoking a cigarette,' and such details come into play," adding, "He said, 'I think it was good that it came out from the back.' But from an actor's perspective, even when trying continuously, it doesn’t work out well."
She continued, "It worked out when I did it naturally, but when I tried to focus on it, it didn’t work better," expressing her struggles, "So I ended up smoking a lot. I know it’s good when the director says it, but when I act while thinking about it, it doesn’t work."
Lee Sung-min empathized, saying, "It’s tough when you receive the director's direction, but it doesn’t come to fruition."
Yoo Jae-suk then asked, "Did you receive any direction as well?" to which Lee Sung-min replied, "I forget everything by the time I hear it," bringing laughter.
Yom Hye-ran praised, "The director didn’t give much direction to Lee Sung-min. All the scenes got OK very quickly," and Lee Sung-min humorously responded, "So at first, I honestly thought he might have given up on me."
Yom Hye-ran expressed envy, saying, "Even though they say it’s because you did well, he still said that," and Lee Byung-hun added, "He’s definitely not someone who gives up. He really liked your acting."
