Broadcaster Hong Seok-cheon has urged caution against impersonation scams.
On the 12th, Hong Seok-cheon posted a lengthy message on his social media, stating, “There are many people these days who are scamming in various ways.”
The accompanying photo included KakaoTalk messages from an individual impersonating Hong Seok-cheon while conducting fraudulent activities.
The impersonator sent messages such as, “Let’s make the deposit the day after tomorrow and write the contract on Saturday. Next week, let’s shoot a video,” and “You contacted me, so solve your friend’s money issue and cut ties with that friend. Then I will cover that money for you.”
In response, Hong Seok-cheon expressed, “A man in his 30s, who claims to be my fan, asked me to visit the Han River once, and I went just once to take a photo and video. He has created fake KakaoTalk messages to appear close to me and has been scamming several women for millions of won by claiming I would help solve their money issues.”
He continued, “Please be cautious of any man in his 30s who uses my name and claims to have a close relationship with me to ask for loans or investments,” adding, “If you have been victimized, please report it to the police. I will discuss the details soon on my YouTube channel ‘Hong Seok-cheon’s Benefits.’ I will respond after confirming the legal issues.”
