Culinary researcher Lee Hye-jung shared a story about teaching her daughter-in-law a lesson regarding the ritual.
In a preview released on the 10th during MBN's 'Sokpuri Show Dongchimi', Lee Hye-jung appeared to discuss the topic, "Is this how to maintain discipline for a daughter-in-law?"
On that day, Lee Hye-jung was voted as the number one "mother-in-law that one does not want to meet." She recalled, "During my time as the eldest daughter-in-law, I took on all the preparations for the rituals," and based on that, she established discipline for her daughter-in-law.
She said, "For 3 to 4 years, I was lenient towards my daughter-in-law. Still, if you are preparing for a ritual, shouldn't you come the day before? But my daughter-in-law thought that only frying the pancakes was her responsibility," and added, "I set a day and told my daughter-in-law, 'The ritual is your responsibility.' I had been responsible until now, but from now on, I will help you."
She continued, "Since my son came thinking he was the eldest, I explained to her the duties she should fulfill as the eldest daughter-in-law. I told her not to ask what time to come or leave. I advised her to come on her own from the day before."
She stated, "From the daughter-in-law's perspective, it's quite shocking. She has to take care of the kids too. However, I prepared all the costs for the ritual with my own money and didn't even place it on the ground. This is my respect shown to the elders, and I did it that way in my family."
Hearing this, Lee Hong-ryeol raised his voice, saying, "From the daughter-in-law's perspective, she has never performed a ritual, so wouldn't she have asked to understand her mother-in-law's feelings? Why maintain discipline for the daughter-in-law?"
Lee Hye-jung replied, "No. That friend has also performed rituals," and clarified, "Rather than using the term discipline, I was informing her of our family's principles. The daughter-in-law always called the day before the ritual, and I felt that was not acceptable."
Later, the daughter-in-law reportedly brought a letter a week later. According to Lee Hye-jung, the daughter-in-law wrote in the letter, "I realized how much effort you have put into your life. I understood how difficult your life has been. If you could help me a bit while I raise the kids, I will follow what you say well."
